Not sure any conference school is going to throw those kinds of dollars at a football coach (don't forget all the associated assistant coaches which have to be paid).
If any school pays that kind of money for coaching I would think the Sun Belt is much better off financially than any of us think. They are opening a new stadium soon...so anything is possible.
The Mean Green Report speculates on what UNT will pay.
EXERPT from above article posted earlier in this thread
Rumors persist it'll be $500,000 or more per year, but if UNT wants to compete with many of today's top assistant coach/coordinator salaries, it might need to be in the upper six figures. Just speculation, though.

I don' think any of the 'top' assistants/coordinators are going to be available until after the season. And then there is a 'pecking order' from AQ's to non-AQ's to us. Even with a lot of dollars it may be tough to attract a high flyer to a program that is struggling. You'll probably do best by giving someone from your neck of the woods a shot.
If you got a bunch of dollars, it might be a good idea to go after the Troy head coach; similar to what SMU did with the Hawai'i coach.

I know, however, I sense that it is frightening to you to think that your dynasty may come crumbling down by one simple hire (insert evil laugh here)....

I apparently didn't see the latest list or know Stockstill is paid that much. In that case, Blakeney got screwed in his deal. He owns Stockstill.

Like what UNT Prez Lane Rawlins sez.. From the Yahoo UNT team report.
Quote To Note: “We think that we can talk to coaches in that top echelon. If you don’t aim high, you will never get there.”—Lane Rawlins, North Texas president, to the Denton Record-Chronicle.
From The UNT Insider (UNT Prez on Dodge release as coach)
"During the past three and a half years the football program has not met expectations. If there is anything my experience in higher education has taught me, it is that change is hard. But with change comes new opportunities.
We believe that UNT will benefit from a strong football program, which is one of the reasons why we are building a new stadium that will open in time for the 2011 football season. I want to report that support for that stadium is very strong and that tickets and boxes are selling well.
I believe that progress toward our ultimate goal as a major research university focused on student success will require increased strength in what I have called the three As: Academics, Arts and Athletics." --- Rawlins

Be interested to see what Slick Rick does here. BTW, has he yet stated that he is responsible for nearly singlehandly destroying the program by hiring Dodge???
Ya know, if UNT can pay $600K for a new coach, great. But at the press conference when Dodge was fired, Slick Rick said the university will be fiscally responsible.
Dodge was the second lowest paid coach in the SBC, right behind UL- Bankrupt up in Monrovia.
Johnny Jones recently got a contract extension and a raise, which means he's making 75K less than UL's new coach who has yet to coach a game. He's making less than half of what Ken McDonald is making at Western...and Johnny has won two championships.
600K sounds a lot more like rumor than fact to me.

I was suprised by the number as well. If UNT pays a coach that amount, they would be making a huge statement. But given the numbers in the SBC, I don't see that happening. JMO

Dodge was making $279,963 with possible additional bonuses of $101,000. Total possible package $380,963. Dodge will be paid on a monthly basis, not lump sum.:odie:

I hope the pUNTs spend a lot of money on their new coach. It's about time the SBC became invested in some good leadership, if indeed football does drive the bus.

FootballScoop.Com
North Texas: Former Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower has not been contacted. There is also a report that Dennis Franchione is a candidate.

I think UNT will invest in a new coaching hire. My post regarding UNT hiring Blakeney was in jest. Last thing the SBC needs is for member schools to be eating their own (hiring coaching staffs away from one another). Hopefully, UNT will make a quality hire this time and injest some new, top notch coaches into the Sun Belt. We are all in this together and need to move the SBC forward and upward in status and success in all sports.
