CFN's Weekly Affirmation
...
Subjective statement: The hubristic folks at Western Kentucky should just up and admit that they were wrong to move up to the FBS. Go back to the FCS and rediscover prosperity.
Objective support: 28 points allowed? In the fourth quarter? To Louisiana-Monroe? What more could you have possibly needed in the attempt to snap a 25-game losing streak?
Subjective statement: Someone in a BCS conference program’s athletic director chair (or maybe a Mountain West program’s AD chair) should be looking at Larry Blakeney.
Objective support: No team has more of an iron grip on its given conference race than Troy does. The Trojans are one of only two unbeaten teams in the Sun Belt, and that other team is Florida International. Troy has beaten Middle Tennessee and Louisiana-Lafayette, knocking back its foremost challengers before the arrival of November.

First of all, Larry isn't leaving...period.
As to the second point, we always have an iron grip on this Conference...atleast over the past 5 years. I know this sounds like patting myself on the back, but Troy is the greatest football program the Sun Belt has ever had. Anyone who argues that statement needs to be a bit more objective.

UNT was undefeated in conference for their run.
Sounds like you should be a bit more objective.

Im not going to take anything away from UNTs run, they were top dog before we were members. I still feel that the athletes Troy fields are simply better and as a result Troy is the better of the two.
Im sure some will argue my stance but others will agree. Of course, theres no way to prove either side right so its just opinion.

Didn't Troy beat UNT in the middle of that run?

Troy is the team that ended UNT's conference run. They weren't in the SBC during UNT's dominate years until 2004, and Troy didn't get to play them that year.
It was disappointing that Troy didn't get to play UNT in 2004. Would have been a pretty good game I feel.

ULM was the only team to beat UNT during that run...gave them their first league loss in 2001. Troy gave them their second league loss in 2005. But by that time UNT's run was over. Only one SBC loss between 2001 and 2004.

To argue for UNT having better athletes, I would like to call Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas (2003 and 2004's NCAA rush leaders) to the stand.

We should be more objective, but it is all opinion. Do you play both sides of every argument?

I think which teams were better, or had better athletes for that matter, is irrelevant to the argument you're making.
In my eyes how good the individual programs were during their runs is determined only by how they performed against the rest of the conference in their run. Trying to compare the actual teams within UNT's four year run and Troy's current run is just silly. While I agree that the Troy teams were probably better, we don't really know, do we? So all we can do is compare their individual successes against the competition they had at the time. Now, Troy very well may be on their way to their fifth straight title, which would be more than UNT had in their run, but UNT's undefeated run through the conference has not yet been equaled.
So while I feel that the individual teams for the Trojans are probably better, currently, I give the nod to UNT for the best program or best run, or whatever you want to call it.

According to this: http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/...?year=2000
Troy beat NT 18-16 @ Troy the last game of the 2001 regular season - 5 games into the streak, and just before the Colorado St beat down. Man NT looks unimpressive just winning 5 games in that old, weak Sun Belt in 2001.
