The Independence Bowl and the city of Shreveport, LA are even after the bowl pays back the nearly $500,000 loan it got from the city in 2008.

STORY

Guess that Georgia/Texas A&M matchup helped them out a lot last year. I think they said it was the 5th most attended Independence bowl ever. It will be very interesting to see who the ACC/MWC brings to the game this year. It is almost guaranteed to be less that spectacular.

They lost their sponsor in 2007 and the game was played without a sponsor in 2008 (so Shreveport picked up the tab). Then they got a new sponsor for last year. They'll be OK regardless of who plays as long as they can keep a sponsor.

Well you're right, but who plays is who keeps the sponsor there. Sponsors aren't going to keep paying if nobody comes to the games...
