KWC 3, USA 52 FINAL

I think the announced attendance for the game was 18,472. Not bad considering the Bayfest Music Festival going on downtown this weekend.

And that everyone knew this was going to be a blowout. Oddly enough, it wasn't a very impressive 49 point win. You can tell the team is hungry for some competition.

Student turnout wasn't great (Bayfest). That 18k seems to represent our hardcore base as most of that was over on the season ticket side, which is a good sign.

USA is the beast! I would really like to know where they would stand in the Belt right now. I bet they could pick off WKU and maybe ULM. 05-stirthepot

I think we'd probably get it handed to us, BUT, I think we are way ahead of where everyone thought the program would be at this very early point. Lot of talent on the team already, but there are some areas that need improvement and/or depth. The two road trips coming up to Lamar and UC Davis will give a good barometer as to just how far ahead we think (hope) we are.

Bob's Barber College could pick off WKU right now.

I'm thinking USA is having a good showing because there's no restrictions (grades, etc) that the NCAA puts on the rest of programs on recruiting. Since they're neither NCAA or NAIA right this moment--they can sign up anyone. Just my conjecture tho. But I've been impressed how well they're doing regardless.

We've had players that didn't qualify and we've lost some players to academic ineligibilty. We aren't subject to APR penalties yet, but all other NCAA academic requirements apply.

Yeah, what USACon said. Totally not the case WKU. We've had several players that were recruited that ended up going the JUCO route because they couldn't qualify.

I'm curious about that myself. Of course its possible with thier transfers and such that they have actually built a strong team that could come in and beat some lower belt teams.

On the other hand, WKU beat D2 teams pretty bad when we were playing them as well.

Looking forward to finding out.

USA's attendance will help them. Recruits want to see full stands when they visit a school.

OK. Wondered how that worked for USA. For transfers to USA, the one year waiting period doesn't apply?

Alright, thanks. Can't wait til So. Ala is part of the SBC football compliment. That happens in 2012, right?

Correct. And, players on this years squad can effectively play during their "redshirt" year if the redshirt year had not been previously used. This is the last year that this could be offered due to our unclassified status. Has undoubtedly helped in some of our recruiting efforts as it's been one of the major selling points.

Right. 8 game SB schedule in 2012, but no bowl game or championship possibility as that's classified as our transition year. Eligible for everything in '13.

It must, seriously, be difficult for USA to find schools that small and unknown to play!

Probably easier than it was for BCS opponents to find Troy a few years ago!

I'm an Owensboro, KY native and actually, KWC is well known in Division II, having won more national championships than any other school...seven. Of course that was in basketball. In fact, they're known as the UCLA of small colleges.

Football is a different story. They started football in the 1983 and they've only had 3 winning season in 28 years. They've been especially bad this decade. I think they've averaged 2 wins per season since 2000.
