MBB: Blue Ribbon Sun Belt Forecast
Blue Ribbon Names NT Hoops West Champs
Courtesy: University of North Texas
Release: 09/27/2010

DENTON, Texas - The preseason college basketball previews are hitting the store shelves, and many of them are giving a ton of love to the Mean Green. The Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook picked North Texas atop the Sun Belt West Division and named Josh White the preseason conference MVP.

North Texas is coming off its second Sun Belt title and NCAA Tournament berth of the last four seasons, and has won at least 20 games in each of the last years.

White, along with Tristan Thompson, led the Mean Green in scoring last year with 14.5 points per game and was named Third-Team All-Sun Belt.

Mr. Double-Double, also known as George Odufuwa, also earned a preseason all-conference nod on the Blue Ribbon Forecast. The NT big man led the league and ranked 13th in the NCAA with 10.7 rebounds per game. With 11.5 points per game, Odufuwa was also one of just 20 players in the NCAA to average a double-double last season.

North Texas opens the season at home against Henderson State on Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. The Mean Green will raise its championship banners against Texas Tech on Nov. 16 prior to the 7 p.m. tip off.

If MT finishes fourth in the East, we'll end up getting hot in Hot Springs, only to run out of momentum and lose in the finals...and still end up with around 18 wins.

Care to elaborate?

Looks about right to me, I might put FAU #1 in the East, but other than that everything on there looks reasonable with all available information.

Every member of the all conference team on there is an excellent choice.

why2k???? back when i hit the 'white lightnin' hard if i happened to 'fall asleep' on the sofa...both of my sons knew better than to f' with me.

you know exactly my feelings why i think it's bogus.

until r-mac can prove he knows the difference between a baller and a cigarette lighter i have him in the killaprogram pile.

as much as i love sergio as a kid....if somebody doesn't like him...something is wrong with that person...i unfortunately have him as a fb friend.

his productivity seems to be tied to his pining for girlfriends. when he's melancholy about his girls he seems to disappear. (strictly anecdotal on my part...i have no empirical evidence to prove it)

here's hoping he meets the love of his life or goes homo....anything to give him stability in his game.

and for the love of all deities.....we are by NO MEANS number one. we wouldn't be number one in a naia conference. we lost an inside player to the league and one of our best all-around players to europe.

we have no point-god. we might have one in the juco but i'll have to see it to believe it. i don't put much faith in jucos until i see 'em play dee.

i'm still haunted by average players blowing by our guys 'at will' so forgive me if i piss myself laughing when a preseason mag has us #1 in the east.

But a joke? With the information that a sports writer has at his disposal out there, these are reasonable picks. Picks that may or may not pan out, but they're preseason picks not a mafia fix list.

Even if you think WKU should have been picked last or third or whatever it is that you think, the other picks are reasonably objective / plausible are they not?

you know that you're one of my favorite posters in re wku and upon re-reading my retort i didn't mean it to 'sound' so harsh. not directed at you amigo. (r-mac)

i never got past the #1 in the east.....it lost all validity to me at that point. i think i 'splained the kerusch objections based on my personal observations.

i have shared with friends that if all things line up perfectly we could be pretty decent by the end of the season....and still have a .500 record at best due to idiotic scheduling. but watching how we tanked last year will not be soon removed from my brain housing group.

do you know if r-mac is still sending out go/no-go for practice by text message???

I don't mean it as a slam, but Troy and ULM look like very clear cut 6th place finishers, at least to me.

Last year was the closing of a window for at least one season, probably two. Gotta rebuild after losing Delk, Hazzard, Vogler, and Coleman. And some of the putative replacements in last year's class are less than overwhelming.

No prob. But I am starting to miss the "clever witty" dabheed. It used to be Dabheed makes a smart @$$ remark, you laugh at first and realize a moment later that there was a fairly astute observation hidden in there. Now... the answer to the life, the universe and everything is no longer 42... its "r-mac sucks".

I'm not privy to the dating habits of our ball team, but as I recall most 20 year old males will make at least one dumb mistake due to being preoccupied with mating by breakfast time.

Not you in particular but it seems fans complain when the schedule is too hard or too easy. That schedule is brutal... but it could possibly pay off. And even if it doesn't pay off this year, it could very possibly pay off next year with a good number of returning players.

i thought i read where troy was the 'oldest' team in america last year with an average age of 38 years and 9 months coming in 2 months older than the washington generals and 4 months older than the lithuanian national team.

actually, i do believe they had a couple 25 year olds on the team due to transfer rules and sitting out and such.

it looked like maestri built for that year and they could score on anybody. but you have to play dee to win in college hoops consistently and even tho' their dee last year was better than previous years it wasn't good enough for a conference championship (tourney).

i have no idear what kind of collections of transfers and jucos he's put together this year. i know that under r-mac i'm afraid we're becoming 'troy north' in re the txfers and jucos.

ulm.....well...mark them down as the reason i'm so down on our program. when you lose to ulm (we did...their fatass center barked at our players like beetches and they ran from him like them)...it's pretty much the low-water mark in your program measurement.
