I don't think our AD is that stupid that he'd hire someone that is a known associate of a program killer. Things that only get USC 3 year post season bans and Tennessee in trouble end up putting mid-majors on the death penalty like SMU. took them forever to recover from that. Has to be someone else...

You are correct, they put his name to rest last year. He is nowhere on any list or wish list for UL.

good.... let the speculation begin

I love speculation and I know of a guy who doesn't have a job right now who ran a very clean program for a long time. This program went to a lot of bowl games and recruited a lot in Louisiana.I think I have a good idea about a name that the admin likes lol :)

former Southern Miss Coach?

Jeff Bower wouldn't be a bad hire. Southern Miss has always recruited well in Louisiana, especially the athletes out of NOLA.

How about Steve Kragthorpe? Is he doing anything these days?

:) I think he will be at the top of the list bc the admin has made it clear they like guys with HC experience. Personally I would be fine with this hire but I'm very interested in seeing who would be interested in the job if a change is made.

Talked to a USM Alum (an acquaintance of a friend of a friend) last year about Bower. Said that his wife owns some sort of really successful business in Hattiesburg. Said she was making more than he was as USM coach. Said he was unlikely to move away from his family and get back into the rigors of coaching because he didn't need a job.

This guy also went on and on about how good of a soccer player he was in high school, and was begged by the coaches to play football. He agreed under the condition that he didn't have to play defense. A few minutes later, he went on to tell us how great of a Safety he was.

Long story short...Jeff Bower may, or may not, be interested in coaching again. :-)

Bower has been frequently mentioned on the Mean Green board. AD Rick Villarreal is from Southern Miss & knows Bower well.:odie:

If both schools end up in the market for a head coach this offseason, I really think Kragthorpe gets at least a sniff from both schools. He was too successful at Tulsa to think he couldn't do it again at UNT or ULL, especially being back closer to where he had success before.

Was Kragthorpe at North Texas at one point? I think he would be a better fit there than at UL but wouldn't at all be against him as the Cajun coach.

Other names you might hear...Clint Conque (UCA HC),Terry Bowden (UNAHC), Major Applewhite (UT asst.), Gus Malzhan (Auburn OC), and anytime their is a hire at UL the name Louie Cook (local high school coach) gets brought up.

Not saying any of these people will be the next coach but anytime there is a discussion of a HC change these names are brought up. I am completely against any high school coach and honestly have no clue who I would like to be the next head man at UL if a change is made. One thing I won't do this time around is get caught up in a "name" hire. I want the best candidate and I don't think you have to go for the pretty hire to get that.

Gus Malzahn's name will continue to be brought up every time a team has an opening, but I think any Sun Belt team is dreaming if they think they're landing him. He makes $500,000 as the OC at Auburn, which unless I'm mistaken is more than any Sun Belt HC currently makes. If we end up winning at least seven or eight games this year and another bowl game, with some of the salary elevators in his contract, Stock will probably make more than that next year, but still...I don't see too many Sun Belt schools offering him much more than $500,000 and Auburn would most assuredly match any offer made by a Sun Belt school. I think Malzahn probably stays put a few more years and eventually cashes in on a SEC or Big 12 head coach opening.

Methinks Bustle may still have a few tricks up his sleeve. Too early in the season to give up on a coach, esp. at 1-1 in the conference.

methinks you don't know bustle very well.... if bustle has any tricks its probably the one where he sweet talks our AD into signing his contract extensions.
