WTF FAU
I'm sorry, I know there is a game thread but I need some sort of explanation for the ridiculous coaching at the end of that game.

NO time management.

NO reason to take the 1st string QB out and NO reason to replace him with the 3RD STRING QB.

NO reason to kick a WORTHLESS FG.

NO attempt at an onside kick.

I think I'm more pissed than any FAU fan.

Interested in this too. TERRIBLE coaching decision no matter how slim of a chance they had at winning. Their players looked dejected on the sidelines.

Look OF, you and I have had it out before...and we are about to again.

It would have been a good time to get him experience had you been losing by four TDs. However, you guys were still in the game. A TD there and it's a one possession game!

It was CLEAR that Howard wasnt playing for the win, which is upsetting but NOT the end of the world to me, but I do see your point Paul.

The FG is more upsetting because it served NO Purpose.

It is a VERY strange way to end the game. I will be curious to see what our reporter has to say about it.

Your coach not playing for the win should upset you more than anything. I am interested to hear the reports as well.

He's paid a lot of money to at least try to win football games.

If I am the FAU AD I would consider that unacceptable (unless there is some rational explanation that we haven't heard yet).

Time for FAU to find a new head coach?

That field goal decision with that much time left and having two timeouts left is totally unacceptable. Schnellenberger made himself look like a dumb coach... sorry FAU fans.

RE: WTF FAU
I agree guys.

The FG is just Fing strange.

I do GET putting in the other QB. Thats prepareing for the future and seeing if the kid can handle it.

Honestly after the stadium is built and Howard has a season in it I see him moving into the front office only.

The Owls showed me a LOT today.

Our defense HAS improved and the Oline is getting better EVERY game. The teams performance today bodes well for confrence play.

Dont worry Paul im speechless im so F'ing pissed about this. I know Schnelly always tries to get backup qbs in games for experience in case something were to ever happen to starter but its ussually during 2nd qtr. the timing of this was ridiculous considering we had a chance to make it interesting against a decent BCS team.

Saw this on the FAU board,

There was an asterisk in the contract stating we needed to loose the game in order to receive the revenue from ticket sales. Did we bet our money against us to raise even more funds for the stadium?? ....

ncowl, owlfamily, is there any true to this?

That crap doesn't look good for FAU, but it also looks horrible for the Sun Belt. No explanation will pass the smell test on this one.

I'm sorry OF, I still don't see how you "GET" putting in your 3rd string QB against a BCS team that you are still in the game with as soon as you get inside their five. THAT MAKES NO SENSE.

There are two explanations that I can see for the absurdity that went down in this game.

1. Howard has lost his mind and has suddenly become the worst coach in history.

2. Howard or someone got paid.

RE: WTF FAU
I still have no answer for the Field Goal after sleeping on it.

It was would of been an incredible longshot for us to win the game. We needed that TD + 2 pt conversion, THEN an onside kick recovery, Then ANOTHER TD and ANOTHER 2 Pt Conversion.

Could if of been done? Absolutely but it was not like we were dominating thier special teams and Defense.

I support every decision EXCEPT the Field Goal and not running the 2 minute drill. That one I just cant figure out for the life of me.

In the end, its the first REAL head scratcher Ive had from HS in 10 years of football. For what hes done with and for the Program I will accept this as a brain fart. If a pattern develops it will be time to reassess, but Im not freaking out over one badly coached series at the end of the game.

Up until that, FAU played a pretty solid game and I saw a LOT of good things that are making me think 7-5 or better COULD be possible.

RE: WTF FAU
This was a coaching disgrace. I couldn't believe I was watching it on TV.

And until the coach or coaches explain it and apologize (first to the players, who were let down), I can't get past it.

The coach used to refer to these game as "scrimmages" or early season "training" games. He has obviously reverted back to that, at the expense of his team, program and school.

Just awful. It has happened before, most notably against Florida, when Rusty Smith and other starters were pulled early in the third quarter when the game was not yet sealed.

Here's one of two FAU threads on the issue:

RE: WTF FAU
not an explanation, but an apology...

after taking some time to rehash yesterdays events, and in particular, late game calls, Coach Schnellenberger had some things to offer. First was an apology.

“I apologized to them for not giving them the opportunity to win the game”, began Schnellenberger. “I think it was important that I do that because, it was needed.”

“I was wrong in what I did, but it doesn’t take anything away from the great game we had up there with them”, he said.

And he even did some side by side comparisons to the Minnesota win back in 2007.

“I think the game borders on the game we won against Minnesota in the execution of our football team. This was a much better team that Minnesota was.”

RE: WTF FAU
Ok,

Mental Brain fart.

He apologized most importantly to the players and then to the media and fans.

I am satisfied.

Should it happen again in such a strange fashion, THEN I will begin to worry about his ability and mental situation.
