I'll get to working on an update soon... so much changes from year-to-year it's hard to keep up with all the new places to eat (the ones that are good, anyway) around downtown.

If someone could update me on recent additions that you've eaten at in 5 Pts and the City Center, that would help a great deal... remember this list is mainly for guests to the city that will be eating in the evenings or during the day on weekends, so take hours of operation into account.

There's a semi new bakery called Mix, that's in the City Center in the vicinity of the Harbert Center.

Also, the MetroPrime Steakhouse will be opening in 5 points in September.

There's a whole new slew of places to eat opening at The Summit on 280 so you can go there for some shopping & eating at a myriad of places that is if you can get into it & park. There is a backdoor to getting into the Summit thru Cahaba Hgts or The Colannade so you miss the traffic jam on 280.

RE: Updated 3/21/10--BlazerTalk.com Guide to B'ham
An M$U buddy of mine is going to the M$U-UAB game with me. I need a suggestion where to stay. We have a res at the Residence Inn on the southside, but when I drove thru there Sat the place looked dead. It looked like most of the bars have closed. We're wanting to party pretty hard, so I was wondering if we should stay in Inverness, SoHo or another area? We'd like to be able to party, then be within walking/stumbling distance of our hotel. Any suggestions?

Walking or cheap cab fare distance to restaurants & bars:
Residence Inn, Doubletree, or Hotel Highland - walk to 5 Points or cheap cab fare to Lakeview or places downtown.

Aloft - walk to downtown Homewood and SoHo

Hampton Inn Colonnade or Hilton Colonnade - walk to a few places in the Colonnade or catch a cheap cab to the Summit.

The Jim 'N' Nicks group just opened up a restaurant called "Little Donkey" near the zoo, and I believe that Saw's BBQ opened an additional location around Parkside/Avondale Brewing Company.

Sad to say, but Tin Roof and Sweet Bones Alabama have both closed. They need to be removed from the list.

I believe this is what you are talking about.

Little Donkey is in downtown Homewood. Saw's Soul Kitchen is awesome - not quite a bbq joint. Kinda funky mix of random stuff. Softshell crab BLTs. My favorite is pork and grits - smoked pork on top of greens on top of cheese grits. It's stupid good.

Seasons 52 @ The Summit has a menu that will feature fresh, seasonal ingredients with no menu items over 475 calories... the idea is that you can "indulge" in all courses of dinner without the guilt. They offer seafood, beef, and chicken dishes along with salads and flatbread pizzas.

I didn't see any prices, but from the descriptions of their offerings, I would guess two could eat there for dinner for slightly under $100. Has anyone actually been there and knows what a customer might expect to pay for lunch or dinner?

Maybe somebody can edit some of the post in this thread especially near the front, Burly Earl no longer exists. Not necessarily remove just a note that it closed. Also the first post hasn't been updated in 3 years. Maybe check it over to make sure all those establishments are indeed still open.
