Big Red Field Hockey Opens 2002 With 4-1 Victory Over Stanford

Maher's first two career goals help Cornell take season opener.

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell field hockey team made the most of its chances this afternoon, scoring three goals off penalty corners in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and post a 4-1 season-opening victory over Stanford. Sophomore Stephanie Maher tallied the first two goals of her career, including the game-winner, and senior captain Sarah Nordstrom earned three assists. The Big Red has now won three of its last four season openers.
