The Tigers hit a 53 yard TD pass on their first play from scrimmage and held a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. They had stretched it to 24-6 when ASU was threatening to score at the Tiger 12 yardline. In what I felt was one of the worst officiating calls in stadium history an ASU runner who appeared to have been down for a couple seconds had the ball pulled away and ruled a fumble that was returned 88 yards for a 31-6 halftime lead. ASU does nothing first possession of the second half and stops Memphis on their first possession. I tell my wife if we don't get points this time we need to start the 2 hour drive home. Memphis punts ASU deep but is called for a penalty and forced to punt again. Kevin Jones fields the ball at the 11 on the east sideline cuts right and races 89 yards to cut the game to 31-13. Hold Memphis again and halfway through the next ASU drive make my prediction of the day, score a TD here and we win. Leonard connects on a 10 yard TD pass and then 2pt conversion pass to make it 31-21. Next possession Leonard hits Dejohnette for a 27 yard TD to make it 31-28 and the next ASU possession ends with a one yard TD pass to Brown to make it 35-31 ASU. Arkansas State scored 29 points in 15 minutes and 33 seconds to take the lead and held on the final 7 minutes for the win.

#2. Louisiana Lafayette at Arkansas State 2005. Cajuns jump out to 16-0 lead as the first half winds down. ASU takes a heave at shot down the field and the Cajun defender splatters the ASU receiver at about the four yardline midfield, the ball deflects off the Cajun as the flag flies but Joe Smith who never stopped running catches the ball in the corner for a 41 yard TD pass with 2 seconds left in the half, but for the deflection ASU would have had first down at the 26 with 2 seconds left. Some new kid who can't seem to be tackled keeps the Cajuns going. Desormeaux runs for 14 to give the Cajuns a 22-7 lead in the 3rd. Running back Shemar Bracey catches a 25 yard TD pass to cut it to 22-14. Cajuns answer again to make 29-14 at the end of three. Bracey runs for a TD to make it 29-21, Noce hits DeJohnette for 57 yards and Burton for the 2 pointer to make it 29 all. Noce scores from 15 to give the Indians a 36-29 lead. Cajuns mount a time eating 18 play 80 yard drive capped with Harrison's second TD run of the night and with the PAT, game tied with 52 seconds left. ASU returns the kickoff to the 38 and puts together a 6 play 44 yard drive finished off with a Neihouse FG at the horn for a 39-36 win. The game ends up denying the Cajuns an outright Sun Belt title and hands the tiebreaker to ASU who faces USM at Cajun Field for the New Orleans Bowl.

the folks setting next to me (ASU) fans wanted to leave at half time...i told them i bet we don't score another point and lose...now, we did score again...but i was right...Tommy West is a master of finding ways to lose a game.
