OT: Atlanta Braves
Last night Brian McCann wins the All-Star game MVP.
Today news of Yunel Escobar being traded as part of a five player deal, the major return being Alex Gonzalez.
I'm headed to the game tomorrow to see Gonzalez debut and (supposedly) the return of Jason Heyward.

I was working out late in the yard, and came in just in time to see McCann's bases-clearing double.
Pretty neat stuff.

Glad to see the National League finally break the streak, all the better that it was a Brave that did it.

Tell you one thing...Josh Johnson from the Marlins was truly impressive in the All-Star game in his 2 innings of work.
Next up: Marlins vs. Nats Friday night: Pitching matchup - John Johnson vs. Stephen Strasburg.

I didn't anticipate any trade, but I'm kinda glad Wren did it. Escobar's defense was falling off, and he wasn't anywhere near his offensive potential from the 2nd half last season. The oft mentioned attitude problems did him in.
We also got two fairly promising minor leaguers, including a good closer prospect. I have more faith in the Braves' minor league system to get him better than he would be with the Blue Jays. I don't know if he'll be ready to step in for Wagner next season, though.

I don't expect Gonzalez to be as good in the as he was in the first half, and I don't expect Escobar to be as bad as he was in the first half, but unless one of them has a major turn around, it's a pretty good deal and getting rid of attitude problems is never a bad thing.
In regards to the prospects, I've heard good things, but I've also heard that we may be stockpiling for one more move. I had heard the possibility of going after Corey Hart, which I would be all for, but I've also heard that the sticking point in the deal right now is that the Brewers want Mike Minor and the Braves aren't ready to deal him.
Lastly, I don't know if there's anything to it, but I've heard talks of trying to convince Wagner to try and stick it out for one more year. Appeal to the competitor in him considering the high level he's still playing at.

Even though college football is my favorite sport and I'm a bigger MT fan than I am a Braves fan, I think nothing sports related would make me happier this year than a Braves World Series Championship. Growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta I'm a livelong Braves fan and I was 12 when we won the World Series in 95. 12 years old is a great age to be a baseball fan, some of my best memories as a child are going to old Fulton County stadium. All that being said, I want to see a World Series Championship as an adult and I'd love for Bobby to have a championship sendoff.

RE: OT: Atlanta Braves
I grew up as a huge Braves fan down here. Even though the Astros were just 3 1/2 hours away, I was just always focused on the Braves. Don't know what it was, but I've been hooked on them since 1990. It's been truly amazing to watch the team this season because they looked so bad, but then something clicked and now it appears that they are unstoppable. I can actually see the Braves running away with the NL East this season.
The Braves winning a World Series title would be huge in 2010. It would be a great send off for future Hall of Famer Bobby Cox. It may go down as one of the best coaching jobs in a year in any sport ever.
