That's pretty iffy to say FIU is the only school in a major city. While it may be the only one in a large city proper, it's not like FAU or UNT are rural. Heck, you can't even tell the difference from Boca and Miami. You just drove a while and it all looks the same unless you're in Little Havana. ;-)

Actually that Dr Saturday site itself is pretty iffy. "Look ma, last week I couldn't spell writer, now I are one". :homer:

ULL '40 Oil Bowl, '70 Rice Bowl

Middle Tennessee '56 Refrigerator Bowl, '60 Tangerine Bowl, '61 Tangerine Bowl, '64 Rice Bowl

North Texas '46 Optimist Bowl, '48 Salad Bowl, '49 Sun Bowl

On any level makes it a loser.

The bowls listed were for College Division rather than University so if the statement had been "major college" or even "Division I" it would have been right.

Trivia fans, the Tangerine is today's Capital One Bowl.

I had the same thought about the bowl games mistake.

Quote: Heck, you can't even tell the difference from Boca and Miami. You just drove a while and it all looks the same unless you're in Little Havana. ;-)

That's ridiculous. Boca Raton (50,000 or so people, but with 2 million within a 45-minute drive) is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, on the beach, with great clean industry, beaches, etc. Boca invented the tight sign restriction that keeps commercial plazas and building signs to small, monument size.

Miami is a typical big city with all that big-city infrastructure. They look NOTHING alike.

Try getting off I-95 or Florida's Turnpike [/quote]sometime and you will see the difference.

Boca is one of the most beautiful cities in the world ? Had no idea, and I've visited several times. It is a very nice city, you are correct.

I'm sure there are more beautiful cities, but when U.S. city planners think about zoning and aesthetic rules, they look to Boca, which was a front runner in making roads and neighborhoods look nice. For example, you won't see those huge, tall fast food signs there. Instead, McDonald's, etc. are marked by what look like oversized monuments. Roadways and medians are beautifully landscaped and irrigated. Leave your pickup truck with company lettering in your driveway, or show a RV or TV antenna and you might be fined.

All ture and it does make the city very clean and nice looking.

And makes it a MONUMENTAL PITA to get permits and zoning done.

Thank goodness that FAU is on state land. If it wasnt none of the construction for the dorms and the stadium would be started.

It is the Grantland Rice Bowl. Named for Grantland Rice, Murfreesboro born, Vandy grad, and sportswriter for the Atlanta Journal, Tennessean and various New York publications. He coined the "Four Horsemen of Notre Dame" and sensationally deified athletes across sports.

There is a state history marker discussing him just off the square in downtown Murfreesboro. Spring St. and College, I think.

While Boca is not rural, Hooterville is never ever considered a major city, which is the point being made.

Well to be completely accurate, FIU is not even in the City of Miami. Neither is the University of Miami (Coral Gables).

FIU is in Miami, the main campus:

Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC)
11200 S.W. 8th Street
Miami, Florida 33199.

http://fiu.edu/about-us/contact-us/index.html in case you search engine isn't working.

That aside, even if FIU was not in Miami, Boca is still not a major city.

I wrote, the "City of Miami". The Postal Service always assigns ZIP codes to city areas regardless of whether they are in that city, but FIU is not in the City of Miami. Postal Code and actual location are very different things.

According to the city, the 33199 code is not in Miami, but rather in unincorporated Miami Dade County.

RE: It came from the Sun Belt: Amazing but true SBC facts
Wow, splitting hairs in defense of Boca! From ur reply to KAjunRaider I guess u live in Boca. To be fair my interactions with Boca is limited to a couple of visits to FAU. But whenever I visit I have never felt the presence of the 50,000 or so people or the 2 million within 45 minutes drive u mentioned. (Why didn't u extend it and include the 5 million plus persons in the Miami area, it is just an hour's drive01-wingedeagle).

Wither you view it as a good thing or a bad thing, Boca is not Miami. And your attempt at spinning Boca as having all the good things of a Miami without the bad is kind of lame. You should be saying thank you to the Owls. Maybe the innovation village at FAU will breath some life into the place because when I visited the city proper it was really dead, the only thing missing was the tumble weeds.

I hope you at least go to the owls games.

Eh, I don't care much for taking things so literal. Boca is part of a major metropolitan area with millions of people.
