This is my upset of the year in the SBC (ASU over MTSU).....and the Troy fans will owe us BIGTIME.
It's highly unlikely, but that's exactly why I think it'll happen.

ASU is the conference game that worries me the most after Troy.

Since 2001(two other MT victories in the 40's) we're 5-0 against you in Murfreesboro and 2-2 in Jonesboro.

Average score in Murfreesboro MT 41.2 ASU 10.2

Average score in Jonesboro MT 20.75 ASU 17

I think the Jags and Cajuns will be a big rivalry. How many hours from Mobile to Lafayette ?

MT vs. WKU will be our biggest rival once WKU improves. Hell, they've already beaten us once.

So far, there fans don't travel near as well for football as they do hoops. But that will change.

I feel the same way... Although WKU has been down in football since joining the sun belt, they are probably my choice. I don't know if I'll ever get over the time they beat us in 2007...

ULL vs USA in baseball is already a rivalry.
ULL vs USA in basketball is somewhat a rivalry.
ULL vs USA in football could be very big.

With that said, I think USA vs Troy State will be bigger.

+1 but I think long term (10 years) it will be UAB and Southern Miss in all sports. USA just has more in common with them, history in other sports and are easy to get to for fans.

WKU has been a great rivalry since UAB left the sunbelt.

RE: What team do you enjoy beating the most?
Yeah, if I knew that we were going to win one game on our conference schedule this year... and I could pick which one it would be... I would definately pick MTSU. Who's bright idea was it to move that to the last game when it is freakin' cold?!?!?! That game would be a sell out / near sell out in October.

I could also see us getting a rivalry going with North Texas. They have broken our hearts a couple of times now. One of these days we are going to stun them. A rivalry could grow from that.

I agree with above that MTSU / WKU and Troy / USA are both going to be HUGE rivalries for the belt.

FIU won in '05. I think we felt awful after the 52 - 6 04-chairshot we laid down on the owls that year. We gave them the last 4 to try an make up for it. 05-stirthepot

so you have 1... which was our 5th year of existence, which means our ENTIRE team was new, while you were in your 4th year, all upperclass/veterans, so you should have won that one. And we turned it around the following season 31-0, and then 55-23 after that, all in all, I'll take the 7-1 record over your 1 win. 03-nutkick

But it's a new year, so we'll see October 30th.
GO OWLS!

MT fans are already getting cocky. Not saying Troy isn't. Just proves my point that it comes with the territory, you know, being at the top. I don't believe there's a school in the country that wouldn't be cocky if they were on top.

I'm far from cocky. I've seen too many seasons at MT turn to shiite, when we were supposed to be good. I've been around the block a few times.

Things don't always go as planned. Ask our baseball program, who did not qualify for the NCAA's, and had 7 players drafted.

Our women's hoops team had everyone back this past year, and still lost in the first round of the Dance.

Our men's hoops team 2 years ago was picked to win the conference, and didn't sniff winning it.

But..... it's fun to talk about the possibilities for our football program. We can be "doom and gloom" once we lose a couple.
