FIU lands big hoops commit for 2011 class
Chris Coleman, the No. 10-ranked center in the nation by ESPN, orally committed to FIU late Sunday night.

Coleman, a 6-10, 249-pounder, will play at Houston Christian Life Academy this fall and is expected to sign with FIU in November. Last season, Coleman averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

``I wanted to get coached by someone that knows the game,'' Coleman said of playing for FIU coach Isiah Thomas. ``Plus, I loved the school when I went down there and you can't beat the weather in Miami.''

As an athletic center, Coleman is expected to help FIU in several ways.

Very cool! I have said it before and I will say it again. I want some ranked FIU teams coming into Diddle in the near future.

Imagine what a nicer arena would do for FIU. not a stab at FIU, but an upgraded arena would help even more with the great recruiting.

He actually committed to FIU last Summer, and then "de-committed" while still mantaining that FIU was his leader all along. It appears this time, with the proximity of signing week, and his comments, his commitment is a lot stronger and sure.

A lot of folks questioned "Thompson's" coaching, but I think it is clear that he can recruit.

If Thomas keeps his nose clean, he could build something special at FIU. I hope he does-- it'll force the rest of us to get better.

MY wish is that IT's new talent starts to bring in the crowds. The teams start to qualify for the tournament....the FIU administration promises a new Arena and IT re-ups for another 5 years.

So:
1.) New recruits start winning
2.) Big crowds start to show
3.) FIU consistently qualifies for NCAA's
4.) FIU builds new state-of-the-art Hoops/Convocation Center
5.) IT re-ups for another 5 years building his final legacy here at FIU.
