Since everyone else is doing it.... Sean Fox from espn 97.7 proposed this:
Change as they say, “ is inevitable”. This especially applies to the big business of college football. In 2005 the college football world experienced the first significant conference realignment. Its impact was felt on the WAC, CUSA, and Big East and ACC. It was big but it was a tremor compared to the earthquake that’s rumored to take place in the next two years, a shift so big it will affect the world of college football forever. We are on the verge of seeing the rise of the super conference. The Big 10 will make the first move but the dominos that fall afterward will impact the rest of the country. Conferences such as the SEC, and Pac 10 are sure to survive but what happens to the Big East? The Big 12? the ACC? And what about the non bcs schools? They don’t have the money or the resources of the conferences mentioned above. What about our local universities, how do they survive? I have come up with a conference that will not only benefit the schools but also the fans. Ladies and gentleman let me introduce the new southern 12.
In the West:
Louisiana Tech- WAC
ULM-Sun belt
ULL-Sun belt
Tulane-CUSA
North Texas-Sun belt
SMU-CUSA
In the East:
Southern Miss-CUSA
South Alabama-Just starting football but ton of money and eventually scheduled to join Sun belt.
Ark State- Sun belt
Troy-Sun belt
MTSU-Sun belt
UAB-CUSA
I believe that he thinks the two Florida teams will go to acc... and wku to mac
The benefits of this regional conference:
1) Travel cost limited-Not one plane trip needed
2) Fan friendly; can make every game home or away
3) Built in travel partners for basketball
4) 6 teams in each division can play a Championship game which means what? More money.
Will the Southern 12 ever get off the ground? Probably not but one thing I do know for sure. College football in 2013 will look nothing like it did in 2010. What does that mean for your favorite team?
