I had wanted to check it out but never did.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi / BR

Rouge One / BR
--Excellent spin off movie for Star Wars fans.

Mad Max / BR
--went for some old school action.

While I did notice some similarities between Desmond & Cullen, it is not the AC background story at all, IMO, but a new AC story I have not heard of before and I liked it!!

Saw Blockers this past Saturday (really funny movie) and Death of Stalin yesterday. It's probably the best subscription service I've ever had

I signed up with Movie Pass a few months ago. It's been overwhelmingly positive. Anyone who sees more than 1 movie a month should definitely look into this.

The only complaint I have (and it's not that big a deal) is that they consider "one per day" to be a 24 hr period, NOT the next calendar day.

Outside that, it's probably the best $8 per month you can spend.

Oh I actually didn't know that. Always assumed it was a calendar day. But I have not yet tried to see two movies within 24 hours of each other. Definitely something to keep in mind

Yeah, make sure you hit the early show on Friday if you're going back Saturday.

I'd heard about this but hadn't looked into until now. If I had more time I'd absolutely do it. In SoCal we generally pay $14-$15 for tix.

Just looked at their terms of use, as well as some of the reddit pages and everything says it's one ticket per calendar day, not every 24 hours. People online are backing that up, saying they've seen shows at night and then gone back the next afternoon to see another movie and have not had a problem

saw Isle of Dogs and very much enjoyed it. Had that signature quick, choppy and often dispassionate, Wes Anderson dialogue. A quirky story built around the personal growth of one of the characters and flanked by some stand out side characters, my favorite one voiced by Bill Murray. I'd even consider seeing it again. Next I need to see Pacific Rim, as well as Bye Bye Germany, You Were Never Really Here, and then Super Troopers 2.

I had my problem a couple weeks ago. Saw a late show (9:30) on a Friday they went to a 7:15 show on Saturday and was rejected.

Maybe it was a one off thing, but people should have some back-up payment ready just in case.

Pacific Rim II - It's what I'd call a typical Hollywood "blockbuster" these days, a whole lot of meh. A bunch of special effects surrounding a recycled theme, a bland story, and uninteresting characters. You walk away after 2 hours going " it wasn't great, wasn't horrible, but I feel like I wasted 2 hours". As god as the first one was, this one is mediocre. Wait for Redbox.

Ready Player One - I really really liked this movie. It took some basic themes and freshened them up to the point where they seemed more original. Effects were good and the look back at old school pop culture and paying it homage was outstanding. It's a fun, cool movie. Definitely worth the theater time.

My son went to see Ready Player One this weekend and really liked it

He said he would see it again and he usually doesn't say that about any movie

Along with being a pretty cool movie, if you were a young adult in the 80's & 90's, you'll LOVE the pop culture references.

Found myself Smiling like a Cheshire cat several times.

I saw Ready Player One last week with my 18 year old. I ended up enjoying the movie more than he did, likely due to the pop references and the great 80s and 90s soundtrack.

I went to see this one with my son and I really liked it. Lot's of pop culture references and the special effects were really good.

Saw Love, Simon last night and absolutely loved it. Very funny, unique enough to not be a paint by numbers teen coming of age comedy, and had a good message. I'd recommend it

Mad Max/ BR
--not bad but I felt the overall plot a little convoluted.

The Road Warrior/BR
--I felt this was a much better overall experience than the first one. Killer action scenes/car chases.

Chappaquiddick/ Theater
--I loved the political intrigue this movie brought up, but my one beef, and I'd guess only Ted Kennedy and the girl involved know what really happened at the point of that car going off that bridge and her death. I thought a lot was left to interpretation as far as their real relationship AND obviously how he survived and she didn't.

Rampage - It's a cheesy, but good fun action movie. A bit more violent than I thought (aside from CGI monsters) so I wouldn't take kids under 10 to see it, but besides that, you leave the theater with a guilty smile.

Baby Driver - A lot of hype for this movie but I just didn't see it. Seemed to be several car movies pieced together into one. Not bad, but over hyped. On a good note, being a HUGE Lily James fan mad it worth watching for me.

I'll go see it soon. I've heard 'Love, Simon' is like 2018's version of 'Call me by Your Name'

considering CMBYN was nominated for 4 Oscars and won 1, 'Love, Simon' will have big shoes to fill.

Except I hated CMBYN, so keep that in mind. They're VERY different movies. Yes, I suppose they're both essentially about Male-Male love, but the cinematic style, as well as the genre were totally different

I don't get how anyone could hate that movie. I know 'to each their own' and all but I think that may have been the most sensual and truest movie about first love I've ever seen...I felt like it was a masterpiece.

I'm just curious why you didn't like it. I mean, just watching this scene, it's pure perfection...I can't imagine how one could make it any better than it is.

Firstly, I never got the sense that there was any connection developed between them. All of a sudden they just got together and it seemed like it came out of nowhere for me. Hell, they barely spoke to each other. Second, it was so obvious that the film was adapted from a piece of literature, as some of the lines were so unbelievable (probably the reason I can't stand literature, and almost strictly read history books): "Call be my your name, and I'll call you by mine". I mean seriously? Nobody in the history of the world would ever say that to another person. Also, what was Armie Hammer's character even doing there in the first place? Like, it wasn't fully clear what his apprenticeship (or whatever it was) was actually for.

I appreciated some of the cinematography, like the end credits, which were done to beautiful effect and some of the music was gorgeous. I guess I discovered something about myself, which my girlfriend pointed out: I clearly do not like the French style of film-making. I just could not connect with the movie in any way and was bored the entire time. When it ended and everyone applauded, I was stunned. And just know that I was very excited to see it. The trailer looked interesting and the reviews were great. So I went in wanting to like it. I just think that style is not for me. I found Ladybird to be FAR better.

RE: The movie thread
You REALLY have to pay attention to get the subtle build up between the two but Luca (director) nails it IMHO. Little things like how Elio is always stealing glances at Oliver, or the way Oliver almost clumsily tries to find a reason to massage Elio when they're swimming, or the way Elio is always trying to one-up Oliver in an attempt to impress him. One example is when they go to the dance party...Elio is totally jealous of Oliver's lady friend but he doesn't understand why...even so he feels compelled to go dance and try to steal attention from Oliver.

I mean, I've never felt emotionally 'run through the ringer' at the end of a movie, nor have I ever felt the need to stand and applaud at the end of a film...but I did with this movie.

as you said perhaps that style of film just wasn't for you but I loved CMBYN. I haven't seen 'Ladybird' yet but I want to.

I guess that all makes sense, and I do remember each of those scenes. But I think in the end it just wasn't my style. I do recognize that objectively it is a great movie. It's like the Beatles. I'm not a big fan and won't go out of my way to listen to their music, but I recognize their greatness. I can see how people would consider CMBYN to be a truly great movie, but subjectively it wasn't for me.

Don't know why people make it so personal. You loving a movie that I disliked has no bearing on my life, and vice versa. But the internet tells me I'm supposed to hate you and find you to be a vile creature.
