USA Signs JC Big Man
The University of South Alabama has announced the signing of Antione Lundy to a National Letter of Intent to play men’s basketball for the 2010-11 season.

Lundy is a 6-8, 220 forward from Saginaw, Mich. (Arthur Hill HS), currently attends Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan. and will be entering his junior season of eligibility.

“What we’re able to get with Antione is one of the best rebounders in the country,” said USA head coach Ronnie Arrow. “He’s a physical player that can step out and shoot the 3-point shot. He’s an athlete that will give us the inside strength that we were looking for. With the other young post players we have coming back, he can come in and work with them and develop them as well.”

In 31 games last season Lundy averaged a team-best 18.3 points and 13.7 rebounds per contest and was named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East Player of the Year and First Team All-Jayhawk. His rebounding average ranked third in the entire nation and he was second in the league in scoring.

He converted 52.2% from the floor and 34.7% of his 3-pointers on a team-high-tying 41 treys. Lundy racked up 27 double-doubles and swatted 24 shots.

“I feel really good about the whole situation,” said Lundy. “I felt that it was the right decision for me to make. I think the coaching staff is outstanding and I think I can help take this team to the NCAA Tournament.”

Lundy was recently named a third team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association and was a first team all-region pick.

“The coaching staff was able to get close to me, especially coach Chuck Taylor, who is from Michigan like me, so we had a special connection,” said Lundy.

Lundy broke the school’s single-season rebounding record and had five games of 20 points and 20 rebounds in the same game.

The Panthers, led by head coach Jeremy Coombs, finished the season 20-11 overall and 12-6 in the Jayhawk East.

“Antione is one of the best rebounders I’ve ever coached,” said Coombs. “He has the ability to take over the game with his rebounding and he has a tremendous game as far as knocking down jump shots. He’s an inside-out basketball player that plays with a lot of energy, has a great passion for the game and you can see that when you watch him play.”

Lundy has been invited to the NJCAA All-Star game in Las Vegas, Nev. May 1 to compete against the Arizona All-Stars.

“Lundy is a great individual, not only a great basketball player but just a great person that we really like,” said Coombs. “He’s the type of person that you can send to represent the team in the community and was a role model for a lot of kids in our area.”

RE: USA Signs JC Big Man
Sounds like a good signee. A lot of those accolades and statistics remind me of Eric Tramiel two years ago.

Congrats.
