The sweep give UNT THREE wins over ranked Big XII teams in less than 30 days. UNT defeated #15 Texas 1-0 on March 16th.
Mean Green Softball Sweeps No. 24 Baylor

Waco, Texas (4/7/10) - The North Texas softball team swept No. 24 Baylor in a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Getterman Stadium. Mallory Cantler tied a school record with five RBI in the Mean Green's 11-3 five-inning run-rule opening win and then posted the game-winning hit in the 5-3 nightcap victory.
The Mean Green (17-12) picks up its third doubleheader sweep of the season and its first ever against Baylor. The Lady Bears fall to 21-13. North Texas is now 3-6 against Baylor and has won three of the last four meetings.
Kayla Lawson won her second game of the season with a relief effort in the first game. She pitched three innings, giving up one run off three hits. Ashley Lail picked up her ninth win of the season after coming in to relieve Lawson in the second game. She pitched 2.2 innings and gave up just two hits.
The Mean Green outhit the Lady Bears, 17-6, and scored all 11 runs in the first three innings of the first game. North Texas came back twice in the second game. Down 1-0, Courtney Bradshaw hit a two-run homer in the fourth to put North Texas ahead, 2-1. After Baylor responded with two runs in the fifth, North Texas scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take the win.
In the opening game, North Texas set a season high with 17 hits, which ties for the second-most hits in school history. The Mean Green also posted a season best with 11 runs scored, which is tied for the fourth most in school history. The Mean Green knocked in 11 runs, tying for third on the single-game record list.
Cantler tied a single-game school record with five RBI in the first game. She went 3-for-3 with a single, double and a solo home run. In the first inning, she knocked in the first two runs of the game with a single to right centerfield. The junior knocked in the next two runs in the second inning with a double to right field. Amber Miller followed Cantler with an RBI single to give North Texas a 5-0 lead.
The Mean Green had a huge third inning, scoring six runs off seven hits. Monica Hirsch started the Mean Green offense with her first triple of the season. With two outs, North Texas reeled off six straight hits, including back-to-back homers by Lisa Johnson and Cantler. Johnson hit her team-leading eighth long ball, while Cantler posted her sixth of the year.
Mariza Martinez, Megan Rupp and Caitlin Grimes all posted doubles in the inning. Miller, Rupp and Cantler all posted three-hit games.
Courtney Bradshaw went 2-for-3 in the second game with a double and her fourth home run of the season. The home run in the fourth inning gave North Texas a 2-1 lead.
Baylor tied the game in the fifth with an RBI triple by Tiffany Wesley and then took the lead, 3-2, off a fielding error by the Mean Green.
In the top of the seventh, Monica Hirsch started the comeback by reaching base on an error. Lesley Hirsch followed with a double that moved her sister to third. After Martinez and Johnson both flew out, Cantler knocked in the tying run and the game-winning run with a double. Miller followed with a double to add an insurance run, 5-3.
Cantler knocked in seven runs in the two games. At the No. 9 position, Lesley Hirsch posted three hits.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 10 when it faces Middle Tennessee at home with a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
