An interesting look at UNT's luck in football or lack of it

At times last season, it seemed to me that UNT had to have the worst luck of any team in the country.
The Mean Green would turn the ball over at the worst times on fluke plays and see its opponents catch breaks at just about every turn. Kylie Hill flat tackled Luke Aubrey on fourth-and-5 in the Mean Green's last second loss to Louisiana-Lafayette last year, but a lot of times a ball that sails that far past a wide receiver is ruled uncatchable. ULL scored the game-winning touchdown three plays later.
Well, one of the Mean Green Blog's loyal followers sent me a link to a study that lends some credence to the argument that UNT was unusually unlucky.
The MGoBlog, one of the many dedicated to Michigan, did a study of the teams with the best and worst luck in college football.
UNT tied for second in the blog's rankings of the teams with the worst luck with Western Kentucky. Oklahoma had the worst luck.
The Hilltoppers probably deserve to be in second all alone considering UNT owns WKU. The Mean Green has won five games the last three years with three of them coming against the Hilltoppers. UNT seemed to get the bounces in those games.
A very good argument can be made that teams make their own luck. UNT seemed to get all the breaks a few years ago, but that had a lot to do with guys like Patrick Cobbs, Brandon Kennedy, Adrian Awasom, Scott Hall, Cody Spencer, Craig Jones and Jonas Buckles.
UNT hasn't been anywhere near as lucky or as good since those guys departed stage left, which is more than a coincidence. The arrival of some new coaches on the offensive side of the ball could also make UNT appear a whole lot more lucky this year by putting players in an advantageous position.
