I do not hear too many Republicans saying that people should not attempt to attain a college education are you getting a dig in at Democrats because they attempt to offer programs that make a college education for attainable for lower income individuals.
Stop right there. You're already conceding that Dems push for more people to go to college. Let's chalk that up as a "fact" in our little syllogism.
But, as an interjection, there is no free lunch. When you say make education attainable, that translates as "steal money and give it to other people."
Not many GOP say don't go to college, but there are some. Same w/ the Dems, there are some who are realistic about this point. And frankly what else are you going to do? You'd get massacred in the popular press if you made such statements. Even if they were caveated w/ increasing manufacturing jobs and coupled with data on oppressive student loan debt?
However, the Dems have championed the idea of sending everyone to college (or "improving education"). They've put that plank in their platform. And it's no coincidence that the education establishment votes overwhelmingly to the left, and that's mostly Dem. And with that fact established, the consequences that follow are exactly as hambone, and the TX gubenatorial candidate describe:
Young person has been promised (at times explicitly) this by education establishment.
Demand for college increases at such promises.
College expenses rise, following law of supply and demand.
Young person invests savings and defers income to go to college. High taxes to pay for "attainable education" for others makes saving even more difficult.
College graduate expects ROI on his large financial investment in college, and expects previous promise to be met.
That person is unhappy if pay and position are low and/or equal to non-college grads.
Just came across this a few minutes ago:

only problem with it is that the charts start in the 1980s. Would be more interesting to see them go back to the 1940s.
