There are zero Hot Springs people in the stands. Where's the local support?

Can't blame the Troy fans and there are a handful of UNT fans.

Nothing like the atmosphere at the William-Mary/ODU, App State/Wofford and other "mid-major" championship games

The App. State/Wofford game was manipulated. The Southern Conference forced a lot of the fans on the side where they knew it would be on TV. As you notice, ESPN didn't pan around the arena. It's called good ticketing and great PR by the SoCon.

Yeah I noticed that but both UNT and Troy seats are not close to being full. The App State and Wofford sections were packed and lots of fans behind the goals.

I'm just saying it looks like zero local support. But kudos to those fans that are there supporting their teams

Yeah, an out of town guest came by and I was watching it. He lives/works in DC, but grew up in Indiana. I felt the need to apologize for the attendance there somehow. It is sad that was our conference championship game. I like theOzone's response... probably true! 03-wink

But wait . . . Hot Springs is fully behind the tournament . . . The city fully supports it . . . There's nowhere else it should be . . . Blah blah blah

Ditto, ditto, ditto.

But don't try telling that to the majority of the people on here, those who believe the Sun Belt can do no wrong.

It's time for people to come to this realization: There's not a town in America (outside of the 13 in the league) that cares about Sun Belt basketball. So have the damn tournament at one of the 13 schools (and pray like hell that the home school makes the final).

While we're at it, why not give the tournament to the No. 1 seed? And if you need some time for preparation, play the four first-round games on campus and then play the last three rounds at the site of the No. 1 seed. If that happens to be FIU, oh well. Put on your traveling shoes.

They bought the tickets they just didn't use them and I blame ASU because mid-way through the league season the local media was talking up ASU's run.

The truth is the people in our own cities don't give a damn about our own teams. If they did we might have had a team average more than 4500 a game.

Every year 10 teams will not make the conference championship. That is a given. So that is 10 fanbases who could probably care less to watch the game. Those fanbases probably won't stick around to watch the title game. So that is where the local support comes in. Not only for the championship game, but for all of the games. Hot Springs has to do its part for this tournament to be successful there. There is one more year on the contract; if we see repeat results in year three where Hot Springs could care less, then it is time to axe them and pick a new city.

Good luck with the new city that the locals turn out in better numbers than the fans bases for the teams.

Hey, I was in the stands tonight! I was on my way to Tulsa for the C-USA tournament and detoured by Hot Springs to see the game/pull for Troy to help UAB's RPI. I bought a program 10-15 minutes before game time and the person behind the table commented that it was her first sale of the evening. I agree that it was poorly supported. I'm staying at a place about 5 minutes away from the arena, and I'm (well, me +dad) are the only people here...no exaggeration. It's me, my dad, and the motel's employees.

Most of the people who bought hotel rooms left. ASU was done Sunday, WKU was done on Monday and I suspect the Middle fans checked out before tip off of the women's game.
