Didnt stAte just hire this guy?

He was one of the better OC's we've had in recent years. He never said a lot....but I never heard a bad word spoken of him.

Haven't confirmed but early rumor was that it took a bit to get the deal done because ASU was holding his feet to the fire over the $100,000 buy-out in his contract. If they stuck to their guns ASU cleared at least $92,000 on the deal.

That's one way to make some bucks for your athletic department

100k is chump change to them. I'd be pissed if they budged at all from that number.

JONESBORO — Clay Helton’s tenure as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Arkansas State University’s football team lasted less than two months.
ASU announced Helton’s resignation Thursday, saying only that he left to take a position at another NCAA FBS program. His destination was confirmed later Thursday when Southern California announced Helton’s hiring as an assistant coach.
New USC head coach Lane Kiffin told the Los Angeles Times that Helton has been hired as the Trojans’ quarterbacks coach.
“We are very appreciative to Clay for the job he did while he was here,” ASU head coach Steve Roberts said in his program’s announcement. “He came across an opportunity he couldn’t pass up, and we wish him the best. We have already started the interview process to find the right fit for our program, and we are confident we will be able to accomplish that task.”
Helton was hired as ASU’s offensive coordinator on Christmas Eve after spending the previous 10 seasons as a member of the coaching staff at the University of Memphis. He replaced Doug Ruse, who was fired by ASU at the conclusion of the 2009 season.
ASU athletic director Dean Lee said there are no buyout provisions for assistant coaching contracts. Lee said Helton was hired at ASU for an approximate salary of $89,700.
The Red Wolves begin spring football drills on March 29.
