Mark the date folks, January 18, 2010. The stadium construction has officially begun. For the last few days there have been bits and pieces of equipment that have been arriving from Manhattan Construction that you probably noticed on the site.

Earthmovers, trucks, bulldozers, etc....and last but not least the port-a-potty is here so it's time to start working.

This morning workers from Manhattan started site prep work (actually they have had people out on the site for the last two weeks prepping things), which will take some logistical time to do. Soil testing on the site was also done but clock is officially rolling on the start of the new stadium.

The first of the job's contractors are on site and have begun prepping the site for the dirt work. Silt fencing will be installed to assist with erosion control and to protect drainage systems. The silt fence boundary is required prior to commencing with the earthwork which is expected to begin soon.

One of the funnier things was during the digging this morning, it was reported that among other things found in the ground, were a lot of old golf balls.

So if you played Eagle Point Golf Course the before the old girl was shutdown and lost a golf ball, and if you can correctly identify it, please contact Brian Bethea.

All kidding aside, it's a monumental day for North Texas and marks the start of bigger things to come on the site as the progress wears on. We plan on giving you as many reports on the progress as they will let us, but things are warming up.

I have to say I've never been happier to see a port-a-potty than this morning.

Nice to see it finally getting started. Likely to be the nicest stadium in the conference.

Hope FAU is not far behind. Were hearing full construction to start in April.

Land is being cleared now, the wildlife has been removed that needed to be removed.

Its an erector set so it really can go up pretty quickly. The City Of Boca has given its blessing and approval so there are no city hangups to deal with. Cash is either there or coming very quickly from the developmental deal.

Keep you fingers crossed. Would be nice to see UNT and FAU in brand new stadiums in 2011!

went by there today. My stepson is a senior there. The campus and the town look great. The stadium is a huge hole right now but it will be great. I like the location

That website showing you the construction process is awesome. Here in Miami the Florida Marlins have the same thing going here: http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/fla/ballpark/webcam.jsp

You can see the progress they have made on the site that used to be the Orange Bowl.

It's gonna be an interesting stadium. Similar in roof style to the Mariner's park.

Won't it be the future home of the Miami Marlins? Or is the name change not happening?

Also, Sun Life/LandShark/Joe Robbie/Pro Player, etc. has some proposed renovations that would remove the baseball friendliness of it (since its no longer needed). They include some more lower level seats and a roof over the seats.

I actually have to agree with this. The Cowboy's stadium is absurd.

Well, I finished my single post sidetrack with "/hijack" signaling the end of it. You just seemed to continue it. If you had just ignored what you didn't want to comment on in the first place, then it would all be over already.

I was just stating an opinion.

All those billions spent and FAU cant even get a measly 20 Mill for naming rights to have the only football/soccer stadium in Palm Beach county.
