grew up on Cajun food Z. family all still lives in Crowley. took them all out to dinner in Lafayette for Christmas at Riverside. A place they all considered one of the best. Sorry but its true. If you like things heavily battered and fried then of course you will love food in South Louisiana but it really ruins the seafood as opposed to how things are fried in good restaurants in Atlanta by lightly dusting them with flour and spices and pan sauteeing them. Now I can still make a mean etoufee. It really doesn't surprise me anymore that Lafayette ranks so high in heart disease. Most cajun food is delicious but not when it comes to all that fried seafood. I have had better elsewhere. But of course my brother is almost 300 pounds now. I mean lay off the corn meal already. the reason everyone calls LSU corndogs is because people in south Louisiana fry everything but their cell phones in gobs of corn meal. my brother and sister in law came to the keys with me and had pan sauteed oysters in a light flour batter and they still rave about it and I told them its because they can actually taste the oysters.

Sorry Dawg, I know of no one that thinks Riverside Inn is considered one of the best in Lafayette. Maybe folks from Crowley, but certainly not anyone around Lafayette.

Heart desease is another matter, while it has everything to do with the type of cusine one eats. Louisiana also leads the nation in cancer rates, but that has nothing to do with cusine. As Zee has stated, you don't have a clue as to the best around Lafayette.

Hey, I ate Atlanta's best BBQ and Rib place;I wasn't impressed. So I guess I'm expert now on Atlanta's finest. LOL!!!03-lmfao

best bbq in atlanta is Fox bros. and if riverside wasn't the best in Lafayette there was certainly a line a mile long to get in. I know they still think Lagnieuxs is good too though and that place is crap. what is the best place to eat in Lafayette for Cajun food then if you don't mind me asking? I have always prefered Don's. and you are right diet and obesity have nothing to do with cancer and heart disease. dude you are clueless.

Maybe your family(God love em) just has crappy taste in Cajun cuisine?? If Riverside had a line a mile long then obviously someone loves it. Its marginal at best in my opinion, but having seen the menu...there are plenty of things on it that arent fried. Might have been in your best interest to try a broiled dish! Lagneaux's hasnt been mentioned as one of Lafayettes elite in well over 20 years. Why dont you Google Lafayette Seafood restaurants for the best places to eat... You had a bad experience at 1 place.... sorry...dont paint with a broad brush...Thatd be like us saying that all Tech grads have a mouthful of teeth.

Au contraire, there is definitely a link between diets high in fried and fatty foods and cancer rates.

I was about to say the same thing. Having been born and raised in the south (TX, GA, AL, LA) there is a distinct difference in food in South Louisiana and North Louisiana. North Louisiana is more like the rest of the south. It has been awhile since I have been back to Monroe, but while there may be a few places that do something decent with Cajun food, I definitely wouldn't expect to have great Cajun food there and you damn sure don't know your cajun cooking if you think it is a bunch of battered and fried food. Catfish battered in corn meal and deep fried is pretty darn close to heaven but more "southern" than anything else.

But if we are going to argue food and what is good, just remember that all those fancy French sauces were invented to hide the taste of rotting meat!! 03-lmfao

and i am a cancer lab technician at the CDC and we are doing many studies on the link between obesity and cancer. I am glad to hear that that your parents are cancer survivors. My sister was just diagnosed with colon cancer and because she is on her second kidney transplant she had the cancer cut out but can't do radiation because her new kidney will fail. one of the top doctors studying this cancer link was Eugenia Calle was murdered in her penthouse six months ago by a person posing as a buyer. She was brilliant and did great work

ATLDAWG, all kidding aside I'm sorry to hear about your sister. As you have experinced, watching a family member go through such an horrendous ordeal drains everyone involved emotionally. My mother had Renal Cancer and my father had Prostate Cancer. My father went from 155 lbs. to 115 lbs. during his radiation treatments and two stays in the hospital with pneumonia. We were lucky he survived the last stay in the hospital. I’ve already had one non-malignant tumor removed at an earlier age. Cancer is no joking matter in my family.
