I couldn't see him getting more than $1.5 million out of this. $400K/yr. for 4 more seasons and possibly a portion of the $800K bonus. That's enough for me to take a pay-cut, but I doubt it's enough for a high profile FB coach. He wasn't getting paid that much either ($12.7 mil over 5 years with 4 years left).

He was fired for cause, he refused to sign a new policy on how to treat student athletes. So when he said he didn't and wouldn't be second guessed by the admin, he sealed his fate. So he stuck to his guns and smoked. All he had to do was apologize to the james family and sign the ne policy and he would've keep his job. It's shows he has very bad judgement.

I don't think his judgment was all that bad.

Leach is known as "The Pirate" mostly for his different way of looking at things, and it is true on and off the field. He ruffled feathers with the TT alum big boy donors because he does not want to do stuff like ass-kissing alumni dinners and public-event appearances. He and the AD have had spats, especially last year when he got a contract extension (that's when the policy statement about how to treat the athletes came up). He is not a warm and cuddly guy ... listen to his "fat little girlfriends" presser earlier this year ... but he a very smart and innovative football guy.

Most TT fans in Texas are withholding final judgment but in general are grilling the school for what seemed to be a last-straw move. I am not sure I would like Mike Leach as a person, but no one hires coaches to be nice people.

I gotta think Craig James is stirring this pot a bit too much. I'd like to get an objective report on how he dealt with Leach as the parent of one of his athletes. If he used ESPN to damage Leach's reputation, there will be one hell of a lawsuit coming that could shake things up big-time in Connecticut.
