Geez, what happened to our basketball?
The Belt has been anywhere from mediocre (2 bids) to crap (this year) over the last decade... I hope this is simply part of a cycle... Tonight's losses and barely there wins continued a terrible season.

NT has to put up a buzzer beater to squeak by a 4 win Texas Southern with 3 seconds on the clock.

Troy loses to Marshall at home, in the only respectable loss of the night.

UL gets beat by Centenary, a 5 win team that has already expressed the intent to drop down to Div III, non scholarship sports.

Monroe beat some school that is NAIA called Southwest "something" - I can't tell what the something is because it is not listed anywhere.

Denver loses to Northern Colorado from the Big Sky.

WTF has happened to our 2 bid conference? We suck this year. In most services/polls, our conference basketball ranking is hovering around 20 out of 31. This is the lowest that I have ever seen it since NT joined. The weird thing - we have had some exceptional wins against good teams (or at least wins against "name" teams). Anyone have a solution or a reason for our big crappola swing this year?

If Troy could make their free throws they probably win this game. We had two shots with 3 seconds to go trailing by one, and missed both.

It looks like there is no clear cut Sun Belt team out there this year. The title is up to whoever wants it the most...hopefully that is WKU. :towel:

I believe it was The University of the Southwest - the same one we beat a few weeks ago.

the conference has definitely been underachieving this year. even WKU hasn't been as good as everyone thought they would be at the beginning of the season. looks like they might be getting it together though.

Yeah, and we are not going to help with that at all this year. We are excited about the future down at FIU though.

FAU is in the same boat as I understand it.

Starting a ton of freshman and a few sophomores they are very young and are learning the speed of the college game.

Should be a good squad in a few years though.

One piece of advice, if you want to shut FAU down, then you have to shut down Ray Taylor. I know hes only like 5-6 but he is leading the team. Miami, Georgia, and Maryland shut him down and none of the other responded.

RE: Geez, what happened to our basketball?
Per realtimerpi.com, our conference RPI is down to 22 (we finished last year at 17). It is the end of Dec and the SBC only has 4 out of 13 teams above .500. ouch. Our conference RPI is only one spot ahead of the OVC. double ouch.

I am still waiting for our conference initiatives from 2007 to kick in and raise the SBC profile. 03-banghead

ASU throughly beat down our non D1 opponent last night. Despite playing without our leading scorer who thought it a good idea to seperate his shoulder over christmas. and with our original leading scorer gone for the year and anothe senior battling an injury. we got to play with 9 players

Hopefully we'll get him back in time for Denver Thursday

6 games in the next 12 days for us...

same situation for ASU. our top players are all freshman and sophomores, and its obvious at times how much we still have to learn.

our biggest hope for conference is that we actually contend this year and dont finish 6th like the media thought we would

USA is the same boat experience-wise. We are regularly starting two freshman and two junior college newcomers. We're very pleased with the results so far.

RE: Geez, what happened to our basketball?
I would not label the SBC as a 2 bid league just because one year we got two teams in.....In this decade we have had two teams in once, that is more of an anomaly then anything else......The SBC overall has been crap in basketball since about 1993......And this season we as in WKU have not done anything to enhance the league....We have two more chances of getting solid wins against Miss St. and Houston at home....But that will be tough to do as our second best player is on the shelf for awhile....Thankfully WKU has shown up in some NCAA tournaments or the conference would be in the black hole of the bottom tier conferences in the decade.....
