Note the potential bus trip to Ball State on Sunday, 1/17 that could include both the men and women's games that day. Send an email to ladyrocketfans@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Quote:Lady Rockets Continue on to Indiana, Tuesday, December 22, Noon

The Lady Rockets put on their second highest offensive show of the season in scoring an 86-74 win over the SIU Edwardsville Cougars this afternoon. Twenty-six turnovers by Toledo, including six straight to open the second half, kept the Cougars in the game. But Toledo hit a season-high 13 three-pointers and shot 58.0 percent from the floor and 56.5 percent from beyond the arc. Those percentages were exceeded only by those chalked up in the win over Yale earlier this season. The team’s 24 assists were a season best. Clare Aubry came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points, including five triples, which is the most by a Lady Rocket this season. Her 24 minutes on the floor were also a career high. Clare’s performance earned her Lady Rockets Fan Club Player of the Game honors. Four other Lady Rockets were in double figures. Tanika Mays scored 16; Jessica Williams nailed 11, including three treys; and Allie Clifton and Courtney Ingersoll scored 10 apiece. Melissa Goodall had a game-high 10 rebounds to go with eight points and a career-high-matching three assists. Courtney dished a career-high five assists with only one turnover. The win takes Toledo’s record to 8-2, the best start since Toledo started 9-1 in the 1996-97 season.

Now it’s on to Bloomington and the University of Indiana Hoosiers. The Big Ten’s Hoosiers won 21 games last season against 11 losses and finished 9-4 in the conference, good for a tie for 5th place. They were picked to finish 8th this season. Indiana whipped Dayton and Bowling Green in the WNIT last season before falling in the third round. The Hoosiers lost both their leading scorer and leading rebounder to graduation, but feel they’re in a strong position for another 20-win season. Heading the squad is Second-Team All-Big Ten performer 5’8” senior guard Jamie Braun who averaged 12.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists a year ago. The Big Ten Sixth Player of Year her freshman season, Braun scored her 1,000th career point last season. Jori Davis, a 5’9” junior guard, is expected to be another force for Indiana. Last year, she averaged 11.8 points and 3.9 rebounds and played her best ball at the end of the season. Another impact player could be 6’3” sophomore forward Sasha Chaplin who missed all but eight games last season with an ACL tear, but was playing well before going down.

So far this season, Indiana is 7-4. Among its games, the Hoosiers claimed a win over then #22-ranked Michigan State on the road and fell in a close eight-point loss to then #9-ranked Florida State. But yesterday, Cleveland State surprised Indiana 77-75 in overtime. Toledo whipped the Vikings 72-62 earlier this season. Davis is the leading scorer with 16.9 points per game and adds a team second-best 6.5 rebounds. She also tops the team in three-pointers (14) and three-point percentage (50.0%). Braun is scoring 12.5 points per game with 4.5 rebounds. Chaplin leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per contest and averages 9.6 points. Hope Elam, a 6’1” junior forward, contributes 9.5 points and 4.2 rebounds. She has fouled out of three games. Nine players have started at least one game this season. The bench is a strong contributor, averaging about 25 points per game. Prior to the Cleveland State game, the Hoosiers were ranked second in the Big Ten in three-point field goal percentage (37.3%) and three-point field goal percentage defense (26.2%). The Hoosiers play a lot of zone defense, so it will help if Toledo’s perimeter game is at the level it was against SIUE.

Indiana is averaging about 2,000 fans per home game. Two of Indiana’s four losses (Missouri, Florida State) were on its home court. This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs, with the Hoosiers holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. The last time the teams suited up against each other was in March 1998 when Indiana prevailed by a point in Savage Hall.

If You Aren’t Heading to Bloomington...

Some fans are planning a ride over to Bloomington for the game, but if you’re not one of them, join Rich Hoffer as he brings you all the action on WCWA, 1230 AM. Rich has a great seat for reporting what’s happening on the court and will let you know all that’s going on. He will be on the air about 20 minutes prior to the noon tip-off.

Bus Trip(s) – Ball State, Sunday 1/17 and Kent State Wednesday 2/3

We are thinking about two more bus trips and want to gauge fan club member interest. So far, only a handful of fans has responded to the article in the last Fuse. First is the game at Ball State on Sunday, January 17. Couple of options with this game. The women’s game is at 3:30, so one option would be to go over for that game, with a tentative departure time of 12:30. A second option involves the men’s team, as they are also playing at Ball State that day, with a 1:00 tip-off. So we could go over for the doubleheader, getting on the road around 10:00. A second possible trip is the Kent State game on Wednesday, February 3. Bus would tentatively have to leave around 4:00.

The fan club e-mail address is ladyrocketfans@yahoo.com. Send us a note to let us know your interest in either of these bus trips and options so that we can plan accordingly.

Go Lady Rockets!

Hey, that looks like fun. Must check personal schedule.

Oh heck, who am I kidding. If I had a personal schedule, would I be typing here?
