We especially need a 9 win team that isn't Troy.

That needs to be MT. They need to do their thing with the rest of the schedule.

While I'm disappointed in our loss to MTSU, I'm glad they are now considered bowl elegible, along with Troy. Now, we need both ULM and the Cajuns to win at least one more game, so that they too become elegible for a bowl berth.
Congrats to all!

MTSU needs to win their next three games and come to Monroe at 8-3 and face a 7-4 ULM squad and when you leave the sunbelt can have two bowl eligible teams at 8-4!!

How could they not fit MTSU in? They are playing great and the "body of work" for the season is very good. ULM probably needs to beat the MUTS to have a chance.

Yeah MTSU should get a bowl this season. You guys beat Maryland and Memphis. Of course a win over Miss State would have made you guys look really good.

I imagine arkstfan will do the math and post something about what the chances are after this Saturday's games.

From all that happened today. The chances are slim for a second Belt team to get a bowl. Not saying it won't happen, but slim. Teams we needed to lose won today. If Troy can some how beat Arkansas then they would help MTSU out a lot.

If MT gets to 7 wins, 8 and 9 wins don't really matter. Massaro will get us in a Bowl game............. period.

that wont even work anymore. Arkansas winning today most likely finished the SEC's chances. Even if Troy was to beat Arkansas they would still also have to lose a home game to Miss State and at LSU to finish the year.
the last outside shot in the SEC is Ole Miss losing to Tennessee LSU and Miss State to finish the year. that would leave them at 6-6 but they played 2 1AA teams so they would be ineligible
With the Big 12 ACC and Big 10 also having alot of teams that will be right around 6 wins. the SBC's chances of a 2nd bowl team is equal to my 2 friends slim and none

Is that a sarcastic comment? Or does he really have that kind of leverage/persuasion? Remember how UL and ASU got shafted last season.

UL and ASU got shafted last year because they had 6 wins. If they would have had 7, they would have went bowling.
"Open" slots could be very, very few and far between this year and if the Big 12 manages to get an "extra" team or two to 7 wins, then there may not be anywhere for the Blue Raiders (or any of the rest of us littlebittys) to go.

But NIU wound up getting the slot in the Independence Bowl over ULL and ASU, two picks that would have made a lot more sense.

Being at 7 wins or better (we hope) means he has a lot more leverage to get us in than UL and ASU had last year with 6.

RE: 2 teams bowl eligible and 2 with 5 wins
Last year was last year.
PapaJohns.com was open for one slot along with Hawaii, Motor City, Poinsettia, and Texas. Indy was open on both sides. That was seven slots to fill.
SEC needs Ole Miss, Georgia (AU, UK, at GT), Tennessee (Vandy @UK, @OM), Kentucky (UT, @Vandy @UGA), and Arkansas (Troy, MissSt, @LSU) to win one game each in their remaining three to fill all their spots. They quite likely will fill all of them. If one misses and Miss.St doesn't win 2 more, Birmingham is open.
Big 10 needs two of Michigan, Michigan State, and Minnesota to win one of their remaining two and cover all their bowls if they place two in the BCS, just need one if they don't place two.
ACC has six eligible, needs three more. Might be short in Mobile, might be short in DC but right now only one of 12 teams is eliminated.
Big East as previously noted is covered.
Big XII needs three more to get eligible but has five needing only one win, and no one is eliminated yet.
Pac-10 has covered 6 of 7 (assuming two in BCS) has three teams still alive but needing two or three wins. Last spot is covered by WAC if they short.
WAC has its spots covered and Nevada needs to win two to cover Poinsettia automatically if Boise makes BCS but can go bowling with one more win.
MWC probably shorts Humanitarian and either Ft. Worth or New Mexico if TCU gets eligible assuming SDSU, Wyoming and UNLV all fall short of winning two more.
MAC already has a spare (likely headed to Boise).
C-USA probably hits it on the nose.
I don't see seven vacancies this year. Sneaking into Mobile looks like the best bet.
