A Debate for me
Every year me and my Fraternity do our own road trip to an away football game. This year we went to USC and had a great time. We have decided to to travel to a Sun Belt game next year. It has come down to going to MT or WKU i want fans from each fan base to tell me about night life before a game,Tailgating etc.

I haven't been to either, but with Nashville just a short drive from Murfreesboro, you'd be lucky to find better night life than Music Row on a weekend.

FWIW, it's only marginally further from WKU to Nashville than MT to Nashville.

I'll get back to you on the atmosphere stuff, I'm trying to locate a previous post about this. . .

Murfreesboro has grown a lot since I was there for school. I think there's plenty to do without going to Nashville, but with Vanderbilt, TSU, Belmont and David Libscomb all in Nashville, you can't go wrong trying to find the ladies.

RE: A Debate for me
While I'll certainly be biased on this and can definitely make arguments for MT and against WKU...:billgates:

However, not to be a party pooper, but...As someone who's traveled a lot over the past few years and missed road trips I thought I'd miss as well as made trips I hadn't counted on, I think at this point you're definitely putting the cart before the horse. While you can start taking things into consideration, you can't really have any idea until the schedule is released. Either game could end up on a weeknight, which would greatly hinder any plans you're making and even if both games end up being Saturday games, if one is in September/early October and the other is in late October/November... the earlier game gains a lot of points just based on weather...

Didn't the WKU higher-ups screw up the tailgating somehow at WKU ?

I would venture nightlife is about the same in both cities.

I was assuming that he wanted to see his own team win.

FWIW there can be a pretty big temperature difference up here between mid and late October.

Other things you could do in (or around) BG: you could see Mammoth Cave National Park, National Corvette Museum, tour the Corvette Assembly plant, there is an underground cave tour in BG with a boat ride, there is a number of various little other tourist attractions in the area if you were interested (a rail museum, KY Down Under if you have kids, and Cave City has a few little things to do.) Depending on how much further north you wanted to go, Louisville is 100 miles north of here (Nasville is just 50 south of here with all that includes). Louisville has Churchill Downs, the Louisville Slugger museum, the Patton Museum isn't too far, Fort Knox isn't too far. Oh, and the weekend of October 16th should be the start of basketball practice so you could come see "Hilltopper Hysteria" that Friday before (its free!).

RE: A Debate for me
I have been to both the Corvette Museum and Mammoth Cave and recommend anyone visiting from out of town to go tour those. I am not a big car guy, but the Corvette museum was pretty cool and will excite any car fan out there. I plan on going back to Mammoth Cave sometime in the near future...it really awesome.

Yeah, I was thinking MT since it will the closest to me at 5 hours, but with it falling on Halloween Weekend, that just is not going to happen. FAU just needs to schedule some clemson, any NC school, maybe some georgia teams.

RE: A Debate for me
I've never been to KY but I've been to TN a lot and I love it. The girls are sweet (02-13-banana 03-cloud9) and Nashville is a great little town with a bunch of places to do some boot-scoot'n.

Have fun!

Here's some tailgating pics from this and last season:

Greenland Dr. and RV Row tailgating: Older, more subdued, families and alumni.

Walnut Grove: Students, fraternities/sororities, families on the outskirts.

And just a small sample. . .

As far as the night before the game in Murfreesboro. . .

There are 3 bars down on the square, each distinctively different.
Liquid Smoke - Cigars, excellent beer selection, the indie crowd is here.
Blue Rooster - Country/Blues/Rock place, pretty typical.
Wall St. - Kinda pub-esque, but not. Nicer, but not. Tough for me to describe.

The other bars close to campus (with students):
Gentlemen Jims (dive bar) - two locations, fratty/red Jims and blue Jims (colors of the bars)
Campus Pub (dive bar)
The Boro - UNT favorite because its green, often has local bands.
Graffiti Bar - Younger crowd, when I was there it was 18 & up.
527 Main St. - Often has bands/DJs, dancing, billiards upstairs, closest to a "club" as you'll find in the 'boro. But not close to one at all.

There are plenty of other nightlife places, but I tried to hit the most popular ones with students. If your fraternity is on campus, pop in and hang out with them. If not, if you're nice you can probably find your way into a party if you want. There have been some issues lately, so I'm hoping the guys on the row have finally cracked down on who gets let in.

Food is aplenty and others on here might be able to recommend some places if you ask before you come up.
I will note a personal favorite that has made its way out of Georgia: Mellow Mushroom - great beer selection, good pizza, kinda expensive though (worth it IMO).

Also, Nashville is a short drive if you'd like to spend a night there, or the Sunday morning afterward.

Seconded. Between Mellow Mushroom and Fellini's, I ate a LOT of pizza while I lived in Atlanta.

RE: A Debate for me
Just my 2 cents. My fraternity tried to travel to 1 away game a year as well. We tried to always go to a game that had another chapter of our fraternity. We would go up a day early and crash at their place. Always had a good time, but be careful you can get into BIIIGG trouble. Be careful what you let them talk you into, and be selective on the pledges you bring. It can sometimes not be fun for them...you can't watch them all the time.

RE: A Debate for me
If you can take two days off of work why not go to WKU/MT when FAU men's basketball plays on Jan. 14/16 in Bowling Green/Murfreesboro. That way you could get both schools in one trip.
