OT- Sun Belt Bands
Hey fellow SBC Band members/supporters/fans. I'm just curious what shows all the Sun Belt Marching Bands are playing this year. The Sound of the South's first show is titled "Legends of Southern Rock". I'm not going to say what songs are included so that I don't ruin the surprise, but I'm sure it's a dead give away. I did watch ULL Band's show on YouTube last night, sounded great for a first performance!

From the Owls Nest:

"Our first show is going to be a Motown show (Jackson 5, Supremes, and Temptations songs) and we will also be doing 4 more shows this season including a Halloween show, a Who show and a Ska show. "

South Alabama's Marching Band made it's debute this past Saturday with 160 members and had a halftime Led Zeplin medley. They sounded great for a first year band!

Aww, isn't that cute? 100. I think the SOTS pep band is bigger than that.

Are we really bashing bands on here? I guess Troy fans are seeing that they're in for a LONG season. 05-stirthepot

Yeah, so was my high school band, but considering the program is 9 years old with a hiatus in 04, that is pretty damn good.

Ugh..... 03-banghead

Anyways. Great to hear that USA has a enormous turn out for their first ever marching band! And FAU, sounds like a great show. My high school band did a Motown Show my sophomore year. One thing is for sure, everyone will be doing a Michael Jackson show in one form or another. Our Halloween Game/Show will be Thriller and some other tunes that I can't remember.

I understand Troy fans making comments like that, heck I actually love it, because not a lot of college/high school fans don't give a crap about their bands. But not Troy fans... Reason is that we have been an important part of the traditions at Troy for 70 years. It's not a Troy game without the Sound of the South.

Anyways... I'm proud of FAU, USA, and FIU (when they had a band) for getting marching bands started. It's not an easy task to start a band from scratch and if you don't have the support for it then there's no sense in starting one. For example: GA Tech doesn't even have a School of Music and they have a great marching band... I'm hoping that FIU will get back on the ball and get rid of that DJ...

We know the shows from Troy, FAU, and USA.... How about the other Belt Bands?

I don't think the Green Brigade has announced what all they're doing this year. If you go to the following link and click on "Sights and Sounds", though, there's a video from last year. (300+ members)

"Cause it's 1! 2! 3 Strikes your out at the OLD BALL GAME!"

haha I love the end of MTSU's fight song.

Great performance! Did Memphis bring their band? Even if they did the Band of Blue would have blown them away! 04-cheers

Yes, they brought their band. I believe they were less than half the size of ours, but they did fine.

I'm not a huge fan of our fightsong. We shortened (cheapened) it back when we made the move to 1-A. Our older version includes a little "Dixie".

A video made by a Florida Fan. We couldn't march during halftime due to the "Swamp" being so swampy lol... Anyways this is just two of our stand cheer/tunes and then the "Farfare" from our halftime performance in the stands. We totally blew away the Gator Band! Enjoy!

I don't know who you are, but I hope I can get in contact with you at some point. I'm the guard captain at MTSU for 2010, and I love your enthusiasm and support for ALL the bands, even your biggest rival's! Hopefully you'll see this soon!
