...surely UTSA wouldn't want a permanant home in the Alamo Dome. Are there any plans to use a different one or build their own stadium?

Alamodome is going to be too small for them. They are going to build a replicia of Michigan Stadium on UTSA's campus to fill their need. Might bypass both the Sun Belt, WAC, and CUSA and head straight to Big 12.

hahaha pretty sure that's sarcasm. Any UTSA fans that visit the site know if they plan on building a smaller, on-campus stadium at some point?

I am not a UTSA fan, but I am familiar with that they are doing.
For the time being, the Roadrunners will play in the Alamodome. The love its central location downtown, the scale of the venue, and the little-to-no money that they have to pay for it.
Every interview that I have read from Larry Coker says that he loves recruiting with the Alamodome. The athletes love the idea of playing there. Its downtown location is much better (in terms of convenience, hotels, entertainment options) than the campus's location on the NW-side of town. Added note-- San Antonioans love to drink, they will be able to sell beer at the Alamodome (something they couldn't do at a UTSA or SAISD stadium).
They are working closely with the city to fund several larger projects including a NCAA-quality sports complex for baseball, softball, T/F, soccer, and tennis on the Northwest side of town. They are also considering a new Basketball arena that they would share with Northside ISD.

For the benefit of SBC fans in other states... "ISD" stands for "Independent School District". School districts in Texas aren't run by municipalities and many of them span city and county lines.
Having come here from Atlanta, it's something I didn't know or understand upon arrival. Everywhere else in the country I've lived, across the midwest and in the southeast, schools were a city or a county affair. Here in Texas, everyone operates in an ISD.

Thanks TG, I have been here so long that I take the ISD system for granted
