Dave Bliss lectures on ethics

I am willing to give just about anybody a chance for redemption, but they need to be genuine. If Bliss must summarize, it needs to be more than "I messed up." When somebody spills a drink on the carpet, "I messed up" is a valid response. When somebody conspires to cover up the circumstances of a murder, trampling the victim's reputation, "I messed up" is an insulting understatement.

Well said! Shouldn't that scumbag be apologizing from prison, or at least from the poorhouse? Shame on him, on any school for employing him, on THSCA for having him as a speaker, about on the fawning Statesman reporter for gushing about Bliss's "torment" and "anguish".
I would like to think that, once upon a time, the result of disgracing oneself was, well, disgrace -- not status.

Then there's the apology that fails to apologize, along the lines of:
"Mistakes were made [by others]. I am sorry if anyone was offended [they shouldn't be so sensitive]. I [am pretending to] accept full [nominal] responsibility [but not for anything specific]. I now realize [knew all along] that we [I] need [want] to put this behind us and move on [let me off the hook]."
I don't know what's worse, the bunkum or the fact that people buy it.
