he probably will be the all-time winningest coach in UALR history. He has 105 wins. Needs to get to 133 to tie Newell. That is only 14 per season. Hopefully, if he stays, he will break it mid-season year after next.

RE: If Shields stays two more years
If he only gets 14 this season, he'll need to win the Tournament to get a chance at next season.

And wouldn't that be something. Which is better win 20 and stay home, or win 14 and the SBC Tournament punching a ticket to the NCAA Tournament?

Even if he is the "all-time winningest coach in UALR history" there will be some old geezer shaking his keyboard and saying he needs to go. Some people can not be pleased and would not know success if it smacked them upside their head. 04-chairshot

I guess I'm the old geezer she's speaking of. I do know that if Steve stays ten more years and wins twenty games a year, and can't get us to the NCAA, he needs to go. Real success in college basketball is measured by getting your team in the NCAA tournament. It shouldn't take over six years to do it. He's starting his seventh, and my guess is we won't be there this year either. The reason UALRgirl doesn't know what success is, we haven't had it for nearly twenty years. She obviously wasn't around when UALR had it. I was, so I surely would know it if it "smacked me upside my head."

I love Bob, that is some funny @#$%.

None of my 3 teams have been to the NCAA in 10 years: slu, la tech and ualr. Last one to go? SLU with the 4 wins in 4 days in Memphis. Utah beat us in the 1st round. Who was coaching Utah at the time????

Evidently he saw something he liked and decided to try it.
