How long a band has been around doesn't mean a damn thing.

It all depends on who is playing in it and who runs it. And of course whether or not I like it...

If USA will never reach the prestige of Troy's Band (44 years older) then Troy will never reach the prestige of:

The Pride of Mississippi (45 years older than TSOTS)
Million Dollar Band (52 years older than TSOTS)
Auburn Marching Band (68 years older than TSOTS)

Our band goes back to 1939, that's 71 years. The band was named the "Sound of the South" 45 years ago. And my original point was that the SOTS and BOB consistently have bands that are great year after year. That can't be said for UA and AU... The Pride of Mississippi nearly crapped themselves when we played "The Fanfare" at the New Orleans Bowl.

You're right on the date. The name "Sound of the South" has been used since 1965 but the band formed in '39. When you said the MSTU band and Troy band have been around 40+ years and I saw on a google search "1965" I assumed it to be the date since it was around 40 years.

But regardless, the other bands are still older, and my point is that age doesn't make a great band. What leads you to think that the USM band nearly crapped themselves? Did they all make a mad dash to the restroom?
