Why Hawk is the best announcer in MLB
I busted a gut watching the game today listening to Hawk, I had to be a nerd and add this to my Hawk audio vault hahah. Miller Park was Chicago North this weekend and it wasn't even for a Cub game!

Vin Scully would have a word about this- but he's too classy.

Seriously. Scully. Greatest announcer ever. Only Jack Buck came close.

Steve Stone also almost lost it cracking up. I just love how Hawk lives and dies with this team, it is refreshing.

Without Quentin, Konerko and Thome(no DH) the Sox beat a 1st place NL Central team 2 out 3 on the road! This should be the turnaround this club needed. Miller Park was full of White Sox fans and what a game they saw!

So very true. And like Armour248, I am a Sox fan who does not like Harrelson at all. I get nauseated whenever I hear his trite phrases like, "And that's a can of corn!" Sounds to me like the announcer is the one who's a can of corn.

Just because someone lives and dies with his team, it doesn't mean he is a good announcer (or analyst). See Ron Santo. You might like him cause you're a Sox fan, but it is hard to listen to him say those stupid cliches every night. At least they have Stone instead of DJ. Cause when they both said stuff together, it was twice as bad. YES!

Ron Santo and Hawk Harrelson are both TERRIBLE. I literally cannot listen to them. Steve Stone on the other hand is great.

hawk has been talking about how a ball/strike call cost them 4 runs for the last 10 minutes. how about the other 20 pitches after that one including the two batting practice fastballs that linebrink threw? how about the getz error? hawk is a ******* idiot.

RE: Why Hawk is the best announcer in MLB
I think there was a time when Hawk was a good announcer. He does have knowledge of the game, and certainly has some interesting experiences to share from his decades in the game. However, much like Harry was on the other side of town, he has become a caricature of himself. It's not so much the catch phrases, but some other things, including his rants on the umpires and some ridiculous theories that make me cringe

You may be onto something about age catching up to Hawk a bit. He gets his timelines off a bit and now and then he borders on "get of my lawn" status with comments about how the game is now.

Not sure if the Caray comparison quite fits though. Harrelson's about the same age Caray was when he moved to the Cubs after a decade with the Sox. Hawk hasn't completely descended into being basically a cartoon character exploited for marketing purposes like Harry was in the 90s. It would take someone a few years older who remembers Caray's late Sox/early Cub years to really make the comparison.

Of course, thinking of Harry and childhood memories of baseball on TV- Skip Caray was another great announcer. A real pro in that Buck/Scully model.
