Couple articles on teachers' salaries NYC
I have a feeling the NYT was very careful in their phrasing to ensure their facts were accurate when talking about median and average salaries.

In one sense I don't care much. If these folks negotiated high salaries, more power to them. But obviously this isn't a free market competition. They use coercion to extract these salaries...and if this charter school is successful, it will likely cause further problems, b/c it's not a very sound experiment to answer the question being posed.

1. The kids are highly motivated...so are the teachers. This isn't representative of the schools around the country, hiring teachers year after year.

2. Paying $125 isn't the only factor here. The principal cherry picked the top candidates, some of whom likely sacrificed wages just to come here.

Yet in the end, it will get cited as some sort of evidence that if we raise teachers' salaries even further, kids will do better.

One can't help but wonder if part of the teachers' strategy is to make it so that kids couldn't possibly do any worse.
