Product of a failed educational system. We have some examples of such on this forum.

RE: Walter Williams: Dumbest generation getting dumber
This is happening because the whole focus of our education system is screwed up. Our schools spend 80% of their time and resources trying to bring the dumbest of the students up to the bare minimum while largely ignoring the middle and smart kids. Why would we do something so stupid? Test scores that only measure a schools success or failure on what % of the kids pass the test - not how high the smart kids score, just did they pass or not.

The countries we are compared against at some point about 12 years old split students into different tracks - smart ones to university prep type schools, not so smart to vocational type schools. We try & run everyone together & it drags down the top students. It would be like a track coach trying to force everyone into being a sprinter, then spending all of his coaching time trying to force the big slow kid into being a successful sprinter instead of having him throw the shot put. The true sprinters are ignored in favor of the big slow kid & also don't meet their potential. In the end - none of the track runners are as good as they could be.

.

Well this common sensely what happens when you drop that stupid and silly old "Readin' Ritin', & Rithmatic" studies

FOR

Gay, Abortion, Jihadist, studies ....

I mean you can do Math this way and it will always be PC Correct:

If there are 2 Gays, 5 Illegal Mexicans, 4 Jihadist, 2 Pregnant Women waiting to get to the Abortion Clinic and all standing at the same bus stop.

How many people would be left if the Jihadist Blew Him Self Up ????

Answer: Anything you want it to be because we don't want to hurt your feelings ... we are a Village !!!!!

And with the newly drafted above studies and the Hussein Obamagog daily Worship Time, there really isn't much room left for old musty dumb stuff like learning about George Washington, or the Constitution - - why knowing that you have Constitutional Rights will just make you unhappy and Hussein is going to take care of all that for you.

Why worry with all that extra baggage like where Mt. Suribachi is or what the "Medal of Honor" means or When was D-Day and why the South was treated so badly after the Civil War (after all, we deserved being burned down, stolen from, and punished for messing with Honest Abe Lincoln and Krew)

I can see where knowing how to have an Abortion during any Term Point in your Pregnancy is wise or how Gay Lovers "Do It" is great Sex Education and SHOOT, if you are aspiring to work for the U.S. Government like in the White House, WELL 2+2= 1,984,938,849,932,156,000 DOLLARS !!!!!!!!!!

HELL, you're a damm genius in Washington using Math like that !!!!!!!!!!

This is absolutely a big factor. One at the philosophy of education/strategy level.

Another big factor is that educators try to impose their beliefs on reality. They insist on implementing failed methods of teaching based on personal pride. "Whole language learning" is a great example, and it has ardant defenders despite being debunked in academic and popular journals. "New math" is another. It is largely an approach that makes sense to people who understand math at a highly intuitive level...and largely an approach that really says "See how smart I am? If you could do this, you'd be smart too." It is not an effective teaching method, but having people remain ignorant does puff up egos even further.

There exist tried-and-true (literally) methods of instruction that work for the vast majority of elementary students. Moreover, these don't hold back the exceptional, rather they identify them and give them tools to continue being exceptional.

But alas, it's far easier to complain about needing more money, more computers, more resources, than to accept a low cost blackboard and box of chalk.

Yes we do. You are definately one of them. A number of people from Mississippi and Alabama on this board proves why the board has so many unintelligent people. THey are 2 of the worst states when it comes to education.

Wow. A non-sequitor, fallacious comment...all directed at other people who are "unintelligent"?

Funny you should say that....In a recent report that I saw, the great liberal state of California ranks....wait for it....49th. Remember, we only have 50 states (not the 57 that Obama visited during his campaign).

WHat is the purpose of the map-other than to prove you are a racist?

It shows that when you shoot your mouth off about living with and by Black Folks and how racist and such crap as we Southerners are, you show just how full of Sh't You Truly Are.

Check out where most Black Folks live and per capita, do the math on the percentages of Racial or Hate motivated violence via White/Black to where you live and I can guarantee you have more Racial Hate Type Crimes occur in YOUR back yard than I do mine.

It also shows that there aren't 57 States as Hussein seems to think there is - - well actually that is inaccurate .... he believes there to be 58 States.

But since they no longer teach that sort of thing in Schools any longer, it really doesn't matter what he believes now does it ????

Well Trippy, that was a lovely response to my post but this was about education(or lack of it in Mississippi and Alabama). He then added a map about where black people live. My question is what does the color of someones skin have to do with education?

WW is correct...Decentralization is the answer to education....and I'd add it is the answer for almost ALL problems. Competition in an unfettered free market?...We can only dream of such a paradise.05-stirthepot

Sheer speculation my friend....You have no basis for that claim...since it has never been tried.

That wasn't a free market. Collusion, captive market and other unethical approaches are not the free market. That's the snake oil that the left has been selling for over a century. The thing is, they're dumb enough to believe it.
