Easy. Tourism. You keep the place an attractive place to visit for all the foreign company execs, so they bring their profits here on vacations.
You shrink the country down to about 4-5M and it's a lock. I call it the New Zealand model.
As a side benefit, I happen to like lamb a lot...add Montreal Steak seasoning, and it's very, very good.

RE: 9 out of 10 economists say recession ends this year
Can someone support themselves, let alone a family, on what they make while working at Walmart? And regarding the unemployment figures, how many dropped off because they ran out of unemployment? How many weeks of unemployment does one get nowadays?

The unemployment static is pure bullsh!t. there are currently about 6.5 million collecting unemployment. There are about 20 million unemployed or not making enough to live on, or ARE only working part time.

Yeah, all you have to do is kill 300 million or so, and the rest of us could live pretty well on what will be left after Obamanomics gets through with the economy.
Of course, I'm guessing that I'm more likely to be in the 300 million than the remainder, particularly if it's this administration making the call.
They don't seem to be all that happy with blue-eyed white men.
Of course, neither does Brasil, if Lulla's comments are taken seriously.
Given what I know about both men, I'd rather take my chances with Lulla than Obama.

None since Obama was elected. All numbers are exact.

World's biggest retailer expects to add more than 1,000 jobs at new stores in several states - including California, Florida and Michigan - this year
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Thursday that it expects to hire more than 22,000 people to staff its new or expanded domestic stores this year.
"During this difficult economic time, we're proud to be able to create quality jobs for thousands of Americans this year," Eduardo Castro-Wright, vice chairman of Wal-Mart U.S., said in a statement.
Wal-Mart (WMT, Fortune 500), the world's largest retailer, had previously announced it would open 142 to 157 stores new or expanded stores in 2009, which is fewer than the total number of its new or expanded stores in 2008. The company did not specify how many stores it opened last year.
Wal-Mart added 33,000 jobs in the United States last year, according to the annual report released in April.
The company said it will add 1,000 or more workers in each of 8 states: Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, South Carolina, Utah and Virginia.
The retailer said the new hires will fill positions across its business units, including cashiers and sales associates, as well as pharmacists, human resource managers and customer service associates.
The discounter said benefits, including health plans that offer customized health coverage options, will be offered to its full and part-time workers.
Wal-Mart is the largest private-sector employer in the United States with a workforce of 1.45 million. Its total worldwide workforce is more than 2 million.
Wow, the major discount store is thriving in a recession. ...and you see this as a good thing.
Are you naturally a f'n idiot? Or do you have to work at it?

It's not just a good thing, it's proof that the recession is ending. That and the fact that the automakers are experiencing a 30% drop in sales...because it's not a 35% drop. So it's not that the numbers are up. Or that the numbers are even starting to increase. Or even that the numbers aren't getting worse faster. It's that the numbers are getting worse, but not quite as fast as before! I think that's like looking at the 3rd derivative. Not to mention, those are unrevised numbers, and the revisions mostly come back to the realization that things are getting worse, and pretty quickly.
But that's taking a stoic, realistic look at things. When you work in hope and change, it's all good!

People seemed to think that way about the deficit too, for quite some time. As long as the deficit was growing by less than before, they were happy. I think I missed that day in math class.
