Eating Rec's for Troy-- baseball tourney
Need some good places to eat-- non-chain, please.

Good breakfast places, lunch places, or holes in the wall--- doesn't matter, as long as the food is good.

The Pines Restaraunt
Sister's Resaurant
Crowe's
The Locker Room
Santa Fe Steak House (that might count as chain though)

definitely eat at the Locker Room. it's on 231 right past the intersection where Country's BBQ and Walgreens are located. Can't miss it. If you're coming from Montgomery it'll be on your right.

They are a local spot. Standard "bar and grill" food. Chicken fingers, burgers, salads, etc. Also, they have dollar domestics everyday.

Most people forget about Mossy Grove. Pretty good as well.

+1 on the Locker Room. The place was packed Friday Night when I drove through Troy on my way to see relatives.

And I'll add another recommendation for Crowe's Chicken. It is a local fried chicken place on 231. Honestly I don't know why all the chicken chains even try in Troy. Crowe's is the best. I went through the drive-thru on Sunday afternoon on my way back to Birmingham. Got a box of fried chicken livers with fries and cole slaw. Good stuff.

Sisters is another good one. I've never been any time except on Sunday when they have the buffet. But the food is always great. Good southern home cooking.

I know it is sort of a chain, but Mikata's has just opened on the south side of Troy. If you like the Hibachi style Japanese steakhouses, and if this one is as good as the one in Dothan, it will be good.

The Pines, downtown on the square, is a good place for dinner at night. Go upstairs and sit near the bar. Just be careful coming back down those steep wooden steps if you've had a few.

And if you like Chinese food, stay away from Mr. Ho's. It will haunt you for days.

Prior to moving up to Birmingham, I would have recommended Country's BBQ. But the past couple times I have eaten there, it has been lacking compared to all the wonderful places we have up here.

If you go to the Locker Room get ready to be very disappointed. The food is horrible as is the service. Don't let these hometown homers fool you into a really bad dining experience. The last time I went I sat and waiting for 50 minutes before I got my food. My fiance ordered a burger and it was the most pathetic looking pieces of tiny meat on a huge bun.

That's three times now I have waited almost an hour for my food when the place was EMPTY! The only reason they are pushing it so much is because it is the only place in Troy that actually cares about Trojan Athletics. Unfortunate that it is probably the worst place to eat in town.

Go to the Half Shell. They have good food and are not a big joke.

I can only go off the one time I've been there. Before the ULL football game, my Dad and I went there to eat before heading over to the stadium. We ordered several appetizers, sat at the bar, and received excellent service. The cook even came out and asked us how things were, and we gave him honest feedback. The staff seemed friendly. And we were in and out in under an hour, and that included several drinks each and all the appetizers. It looked packed last friday night.

But that's just my experience.

Yanni's has the best steaks in town. Also try Hooks BBQ. Both are on 231 south close to Wal Mart.

I've never been to the new Yanni's, but I went to the old one enough to know whatever they serve will be good.

Half Shell I can take or leave. Got food poisoning there one night. Not really bad or anything, but I puked a few times and felt queasy for several hours. But all the other times I've enjoyed it. Just left feeling like I had eaten pounds of fried batter.

Yanni's was great (food and service) the last time I ate there just before the old location closed.

I enjoyed Santa Fe and the Campus Deli. Is the deli still there?

Remember the home-cooked food place that was just north of the Holiday Inn Express on 231? What was its name and is it still there? I know it lost some of its popularity a few years back (went to buffet style), but it was THE place for lunch in Troy for decades.

I am from Troy originally so I will give you the low down. Half-Shell will be my first choice. Everything there is just great. Locker Room sucks!! They fry their hamburgers and then stick them on the grill. They do not tell you that when you order it but they do it that way and it is very, very nasty. Yanni's is very good and are very reasonable on the price's also. They have great steaks but also surprises you with their sandwiches. Sisters' and Julia's is two great places to eat if you like home cooking. The pines has very good steaks, but if you like the rustic charm of a place then check out Mossy Grove. It is located in a quaint little school house on Hwy 167 about 4 miles. There is a new place in town Old Enzor Lane. It is more salads from what I have heard. So if you are looking for something quick then that will be your best bet. Enjoy your stay in TROY and GOOD LUCK!

well everyone is going to have their own opinion, but as RDA Trojan said, the place gets packed. I've been several times when I go back to Troy and I've enjoyed it every time. Good service, good food (especially the wings and fries meal, affordable and delicious), and a great atmosphere. You can believe whoever you want, but really, you should let you own tastebuds decide for you. The Locker Room is easy to find and the IMO the food and service are good. I reccommend it over all other places for a "quick" bite.

If you go to The Locker Room the fried pickles are a must.

Mr Ho will treat you right if he knows you are an MTSU fan.

Is it that Country Kitchen place? That might not even be the name of it.

Also in addition to the fried pickles at Locker Room, try the fried green beans.

I totally forgot about Julia's. They used to do a seafood buffet on friday nights. They still might. We've been there several times. I think we ended up there after one of my graduations since everyone in town was trying to go eat somewhere.

oh definitely! they have some of the best fried pickles i've ever eaten. Only this small seafood shack in Mobile (The River Shack off DIP) can top 'em.
