Wilson arrested on DUI charge
Monday, October 17, 2005

TUSCALOOSA - University of Alabama backup quarterback John Parker Wilson was arrested and charged with DUI early Sunday morning by the Northport Police Department, according to its log book at the Tuscaloosa County jail.

Wilson, a former Hoover High School standout, was booked at 2:40 a.m., and later released after posting bond.

Wilson, a freshman whose 20th birthday is today, has played in three games this season, serving as the No. 2 quarterback behind senior Brodie Croyle. He is 3-for-3 passing for 41 yards, including a 36-yard touchdown pass against South Carolina.

Efforts to read head coach Mike Shula for comment were unsuccessful.

The minimum blood-alcohol level for a DUI offense in Alabama is 0.08 percent. Details of Wilson's arrest were not available Sunday night.

First offenders face a misdemeanor charge, punishable by imprisonment of not more than one year, or a fine of between $600-$1,200, or both. There is also a 90-day revocation of the driver's license and requirement to attend a court-appointed substance abuse program.

Wilson could face disciplinary action from Shula, too. Shula seldom comments on how he handles player punishment.

Most recently, Shula refused to comment after safety Marcus Carter was arrested May 28 in Fort Payne for underage possession of alcohol, a misdemeanor. Shula announced before the start of the Sept. 3 season opener against Middle Tennessee that Carter had been suspended for one game.

Wilson led Hoover to the Class 6A title in 2003, but delayed his enrollment at Alabama until the 2005 spring semester as a "grayshirt" and beat out junior Marc Guillon for the No. 2 quarterback job in spring practice.

Happy Birthday, JP...what a crappy thing to happen.

Maybe he'll think twice before driving drunk next time.

RE: John Parker Wilson arrested on DUI charge
Yeah I am a DUI lawyer and I think now he will think not just twice but at-least a hundred times before driving drunk. Though I understand it can be quite harsh on those are charged but it’s quite necessary to refrain more people doing it. I didn’t think it made to insider though!
