OT: Hal Mumme attempts to get back into coaching
Mummu rises, attempts to get back into coaching
Posted by ESPN.com's Graham Watson

Hal Mumme is trying to get back into coaching.

He was fired from New Mexico State in December and then underwent surgery to stop the spread of prostate cancer in February. But that has not deterred Mumme from his passion and he has interviewed for the head-coaching position at McMurry University, a Division III school in Texas.

Former McMurry coach Donny Gray resigned in late February after posting a 2-18 record in two years as the head coach. Prior to that, he served as an assistant.

According to bigcountryhomepage.com, the Web site of a couple television stations in Abilene, Texas, Mumme is one of three candidates for the job. Dean Campbell, the director of high school relations at the University of Arkansas, and McMurry interim head coach Jim Edwards are the other candidates.

Mumme was 3-9 in his final season at New Mexico State and was 11-38 in his four years with the program.
