Huge win for UC baseball
Ended UK's 29 game OOC home winning streak with a 12-6 victory. Should be a good bump for their RPI which was 125 going into this game. UK is at 14. The pitchers did well and split up the work with no one getting more than 2 inning of work. Hopefully they can carry the success into this weekend's trip to Rutgers.

They are very inconsistent. It was a good idea to use several of them for an inning or so each tonight. Smith was doing well and probably could have gone a couple more innings, but I am sure they want to save his arm for the weekend.

Not that we want to get ahead of ourselves but last year we had a great season and lost a lot, this year they are actually playing a bit better than I expected but next year is another one of those windows where the team will set up to have a chance at a NCAA Tourny berth and BE Championship.

Losing Spina, Hill, Geglein will certainly hurt but the influx of JUCO talent Cleary brought into this team this year will pay major dividends next season.

Our pitching staff will be very experienced next year with Garman, Burkett, Johnson, Johnson and Smith. Not sure who the ace of the staff will be but some good work has been put in by all thus far this year.

Spina is the only major loss with position players. I know Satterwhite also a senior but at this point he is having a very bad year and may be missing the protection of Campana and Harrison.

I agree that next year could be a good one. Hill and Geglein are pretty big losses to the pitching staff though. I just wonder if Cleary will still be here. There were rumblings about him being fired prior to last year, but a good season saved his job. I don't know if a mediocre season this year saves him again.

Not sure about Cleary...I know for 4 or 5 years there we really stunk it up even against lower level schools and yes last year saved him.

We have a chance to be a pretty decent program, yes we arent that south to get really good baseball but if we can manage to play the first couple weeks on the road the weather into March isnt that bad. Another thing that will help a great deal is having the practice bubble to play under for practices, will help recruiting a great deal.

Recruiting was seveerly affected by not having a "home" field during construction of Varsity Village.

Every game, home or away, was a bus trip or more.

Recruiting to a hole in the ground is difficult as well. Once the field was done, Cleary has gotten some differance making player to come to UC.

Hopefully with the successful results with the hiring of a new pitching coach, Coach Cleary can entice some better pitchers to UC. They will still be projects because any real good pitcher signs out of high school for big money. But they will be higher level projects.

Baseball is on the move. Don't miss it.

I agree there was a lot of talk about the coach, but the no stadium was a major problem for a while. I don't see why as one of the most southern teams in the BE, in a hotbed of HS talent like Cincinnati, with the facilities we have why we shouldn't be top 3 or 4 of the BE every year.
