MTSU lineman transfers

Posted by ESPN.com's Graham Watson

Middle Tennessee offensive lineman Rogeric Govan has left the team to tend to his ailing mother.

Govan, who redshirted in 2008, said via text message that he wanted to tend to his mother who was suffering from heart disease. He said the move home would be financially benificial to his family.

"I am really disappointed that Rogeric is going back home but I understand his situation," MTSU coach Rick Stockstill said. "His mother has some health issues and Rogeric is an only child and feels there needs to be someone at home to take care of her.

"We felt Rogeric had a bright future at Middle Tennessee and we wish him the best of luck and our prayers are with his mother and her health."

Govan, who is from Little Rock, Ark., said he plans to transfer to a school in Arkansas so he can qualify for in-state financial aid.

I'm surprised this got picked up by anyone outside of the local paper.

Last year, if an OL left we'd have been hurting badly. This year, I think we'll be fine. But its always nice to have a deep OL. Especially with the increase in the number of plays we'll be running on offense this season.

Agree, thats how FAU got Frantz Joseph. He Redshirted at Boston College and then wanted to return home to help care for his mother. It speaks highly of the integrity of the football players in the SunBelt that they have this attitude.

I saw he mentioned transferring to a Arkansas school to get financial aid. Is stAte going after him?
