Replacing starting quarterback Kinsmon Lancaster was Louisiana-Monroe's top priority this spring, and less than a week into practice, the Warhawks might have found their man.
The Monroe News-Star reports that Trey Revell, Lancaster's backup last season and the favorite heading into the spring, has been the team's best quarterbacking option.
"Trey has all the tangibles and intangibles to be a fine quarterback," ULM coach Charlie Weatherbie said. "He's a strong leader, and also physically he's very capable of making plays when things break down around him."
Revell hasn't been perfect. He was 10-of-20 for 89 yards during the team's scrimmage on Saturday, but he was comfortable leading the offense and the timing will come as he gets in tune with his new receivers.
Revell's chief competition is SMU transfer Zach Rhodes, who played receiver with the Mustangs. He hit 8-of-15 passes for 101 yards during the scrimmage and threw the only touchdown. He also showed off his dual-threat ability while scrambling for 43 yards on six carries.
Revell, however, isn't worried. He knows he'll get better as spring continues and he's already more comfortable after a week of practice.
"It's all about making the right decisions and going to the right places, putting your guys in the right places and moving the offense up and down the field," Revell told the News-Star. "It's gonna happen."
