An arrest warrant has been issued for Will Dunbar, a standout on the University of Alabama at Birmingham's football team, for failing to register as a sex offender, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Dunbar was convicted in the aggravated sodomy and aggravated rape of a 16-year-old girl in Fulton County, Ga. in 2004, said Lt. Randy Christian.

Dunbar is required to register each February, Christian said. Dunbar failed to do so this year and the Jefferson County Sheriff s Office Sex Offender Unit got a warrant for his arrest.

Dunbar is facing a second felony charge because he failed to inform authorities when he moved from his last known address, which was in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road in Birmingham.


Dunbar, a safety for the Blazers, graduated in December with a criminal science degree and has been mentioned as possibly having a future with the NFL.

In 2007, despite playing with an injured knee, Dunbar had seven games with double digits in tackles. He had 17 tackles twice -- against Florida State and Michigan State -- and also had a 21-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Seminoles.

Dunbar considered entering the NFL Draft in 2007 but chose instead to return in the 2008 season and get his degree.

Despite a sprained ankle, Dunbar this season played in 11 games with 68 assists, 33 solo tackles and two interceptions.
