How does your opinion on Troy football have any relationship to a thread on basketball attendance ? 01-wingedeagle

Did you not read the message before his. If you did, then you would realize what the relationship is. It would be like me taking your comment by itself and asking the same question. 03-idea

Troy fans posting about football is like WKU fans posting about basketball.

RE: Final MBB Home Attendance Averages
FAU attendance was a lot better this year then last year...at least in the beginning of the season. Towards the end, when the team was finishing up a 6-26 campaign, you can imagine that it was tough to draw anyone....I'm sure that most of the players would have stayed away from the arena if they could have! :) Still, to get over 1000 per game is an improvement. Student support, especially before the wheels completely fell off, was very good.

What these numbers show, though, is that most of us have to do more in terms of attendance if we want to get to where we want to be as a conference.

Just a reminder.. These numbers include all free promo tickets, pass list, students, attending pre game sold tickets( season tickets and walkup) , and non attending pre-game sales tickets.

I asked one of our managers to count the number of people actually attending at a few schools. At one school the number was less that 125 excluding the game day staff.

Sad. UNT isn't settin' the world on fire and has a long way to go averaging 3,000. Five teams averaging under 2,000 for the season is pathetic.

It wasn't FAU. We didn't have any game that low. My guess would be FIU. If you look at some of the pictures from their games, you can see 10 people in the stands. I'm not saying FAU's attendance was great by any means, but we always had at least 500 people at any one game.

UALR had a winning year, so it makes sense that they would have an up year in attendance. But I think it is impressive that Arkansas St. leapfrogged over MTSU and USA (who had been right there with WKU in past years) in a year with so many conference setbacks.

I do believe Brady will get you where you want to go sooner or later. When you guys going we could really see some snowballing success in Jonesboro. Attendance leads to better recruits etc. Do you guys have incentives in place for Brady if he wins etc? Do you have the "Felton clause" to get home and home with a team that he leaves you for? Just curious.

Brady will be gone when his third year is up. We can't afford to keep him around after the LSU money stops. I just hope he has us winning and attendance is up enough for a respectable coach to take his place. ASU Has 2 more years to get the ball rollin.

Ahem...I saw some pics in at least one game (maybe more games at the end)...and posted it in your message board, where there were areas with NO fans in a big area in FAU arena. FIU has a big attendance problem, which is evident by average attendance, but please.....FAU is no Michigan nor Penn State to be making those type of comments.

It's pretty evident it was either FAU, UNO, or FIU....

Explain this. Why after year three in particular? What LSU money? He got his buyout regardless of where he went next right? So why would his LSU buyout matter? If money were the crucial thing he could have gotten more elsewhere anyway right, so I'm not seeing why the LSU money would matter so much then?

LSU money is supplementing his income at ASU. Once it stops, and only has ASU salary, he could get greedy.

RE: Final MBB Home Attendance Averages
Brady is getting $100,000 from ASU and the doom/gloomers are convinced that Brady is gone soon as the LSU supplement (I've heard he's getting less than $400,000 from the two schools combined) that he will be gone.

If attendance comes up, I don't buy it.

The fact is Brady had choices I know one CAA school chased him hard and a couple other expressed interest but he called ASU rather than the other way around. We are in his neighborhood. He coached against ASU's golden era at Samford and was an assistant at UNO for one of the greatest games played at the Convocation Center when ASU defeated a ranked UNO. Brady came looking for a bargain, a school where success would mean across the board turn-around.

Would he go home to coach on the Mississippi SEC schools if he had a chance? Probably. But it isn't unfeasible to think he's been to that mountain top and may recognize the merit of heading up a program that will be the focus of the school.

Winning the conference one season and finishing second and taking the conference tournament netted Nutt what at the time was the richest contract in Sun Belt history. ASU's administration has demonstrated that if they have someone who is experiencing success and the fans are buying in, that they will spend.

ASU can't match SEC and other BCS auto-bid dollars obviously but get the crowds back and we can match most other schools and can make the money gap between the BCS and us close enough that one would have to think about the situation before leaping. That's one place where an experienced veteran beats a young coach. The young guy pretty much has to leap to advance a career. A veteran having lived that life may choose to not jump at four years of guaranteed money for a chance to be some place where a much longer career is feasible.

RE: Final MBB Home Attendance Averages
While WKU's attendance wasn't bad, by SBC comparisons, it wasn't exactly what a lot of us would like. We EXPECT near sell-outs every night. At the level we obtained, we were right around 75% capacity. Also, if you saw any of the game on TV, there were large sections of the lower arena, behind the team benches and scorer's desk which were always empty. Mind you, those seats are paid for, thus they count, but it would be nice for an a$$ to be firmly planted in one of them every night.

Lastly, I know it sounds like I was complaining above, but, realistically, we did pretty well, attendance-wise. Most of our "premier" games were mid-week (Southern Ill on a Wednesday, Georgia on a Tuesday, South Al on a Thursday, MT on a Thursday), which means we got fewer and fewer out-of-towners (myself included, as I only was able to attend one game in Diddle this season). We also played most of our "name" opponents on the road (Houston on a Saturday, Murray State on a Saturday, Louisville was neutral site on a Sunday, Tulane on a Saturday, Evansville on a Saturday, Florida State on a Sunday, and Miss. State on a Monday).

RE: Final MBB Home Attendance Averages
We lacked many Saturday games. I think the SIU game was Wed before thanksgiving too.

Also, what hurts our attendance is a LONG winter break for our students. They are out 5-6 weeks during Christmas.
