UC vs. WMU
Dropped the first game of the series last night. Won the first of a double header earlier today 6-1.

Were down 8-1 going into the bottom of the 2nd in the second game. Spina just hit a grand slam with 2 outs and the score is now 8-6.

UC leads 10-8 after 4. Once again the starting pitching sucks and the bats help overcome it.

Now 12 in the bottom of the 5th. Spins has 2 homeruns today to give him 9 for the year. He is on pace to crush the single season record for the Bearcats.

Caught the end of the first game and most of the second before the rain drove us out. The pitching stinks on this team. Really bad.

Nice!!!!

Make a comment about the second game starting pitching and not even mention the 6 hitter the pitchers combined for in the first.

Aren't you the guy who said the season was down the tubes after the first weekend?

I will never understand the negativity of the poeple who live in this town!

RE: UC vs. WMU
We damn well better be winning these games, considering before yesterday WMU was 2-9 on the year. Anything less than 3 of 4 in this series is a disappointment. We apparently dropped the first one, so we need the rest.

Dear bus driver from the Simpsons,

#1, other than one post where I said season tickets are the best deal going, pretty sure this is the first post I have made relating to UC Baseball this season. So STFU.

#2, do you go to many games? Overall, the pitching does stink.

The pitching is horrible. They have a 1 good game out of every 5 or 6.

I did not say the season was down the tubes. What I said was that it was going to be nearly impossible to get in the NCAA tourney after dropping the first 3 because of the very weak overall schedule. The first 3 games were a good chance to get an early RPI boost and that oppurtunity was blown. As of 12:49 today the Bearcats RPI is around 163. Do you know how many Big East teams are above 50? Just one, Seton Hall. In the top 100? Just 4. Without winning the Big East tournament it will be almost impossible for UC to get in the NCAA tournament because they do not play anyone. It sucks, but it is one of the problems of playing college baseball above the Mason-Dixon line. When you have early oppurtunities OOC, you have to take advantage of them.

I am not negative, I am realistic. The reality just happens to be very negative.

Louisville's not even top 50? Wow. I was reading in one preview mag - TSN I think - where UL was their preseason #9 overall, and the national POY was Dominquez. I haven't followed anything outside UC, have the Cards disappointed thus far?

RE: UC vs. WMU
Louisville is 88. They are 9-4(don't know if they won today), with 3 of those losses coming to #11 ranked Florida in Gainesville. Other than that they have played EKU, Bowling Green, Milwaukee, Eastern Illinois, one game against Tennessee, and are in a series with Iowa. Their schedule has sucked so far, but they have pretty good OOC games the rest of the season so their RPI will go up. While we are playing midweek games against MAC teams and Morehead St. they have Vandy and some Big Ten teams. Even if they fall sometime in the BE tourney they have a good shot at an at large bid this year.

Oh, okay. Interesting. They still seem like the team to beat this year - although I'm really hoping we see a repeat of last year where UC sort of struggles to get in the groove up until conference season, and at that point feasts on some of the lower end teams in the BE and gains momentum that way. Although (downer alert) the pitching is nowhere near the caliber it was last year, I don't think a top 4 finish is really out of the question. And unlike the basketball Bearcats the baseball guys always seem to compete in the conference tournament, too.

Anywho. At this point I'm hoping for top four. Is that unrealistic?

RE: UC vs. WMU
Hard to say this early. I think it is very possible. Louisville is the clear number one. I would be pretty shocked if they didn't win the conference regular season title. After that there are some good, but not great teams. Notre Dame, St John's, and Seton Hall are always competitive, and USF is on the rise. Don't let WVU's inflated record fool you later in the season. They play one of the worst schedules in college baseball to inflate their win numbers. They will suck like they always do.

It will all depend on if our pitching comes around. It will be tough to break into the top 4 if we have to score double digit runs every game to win.

Got a good day out of the pitching staff and took the last game of the series 4-3.
