So true! Let's give more money to the banks and bail out those poor souls who bought big houses with big mortgages that they had no chance of affording!

Wanna REALLY stimulate the economy? When people file their 2008 tax returns, send them all back a check in the amount of 50% of income taxes paid last year. THAT will stimulate the economy across the board and also help people keep up with their mortgages and bills.

If workers and taxpayers are concerned about their job security and debt, stimulus refund checks will go to savings accts and pay down debt as much as it would for consumer spending.

BTW: Third and final time.

Can anyone commit themselves to agreeing or disagreeing with the premise of the reporter?

Like in court , just answer the question.

BarsemaBone, Have you read Amity Shlaes book on the depression. I have read good reviews about it and it counters many of the perceptions about the FDR era.

I would never dissuade anyone from reading & studying points of view different than my own.

I would encourage all those with an open mind on the perplexing econ questions facing USA today & seventy years ago to know backgrounds of the sources of those providing an analysis.

None if it proves one view right or wrong but merely provides readers a frame of reference.

much like "the people's history of the U.S." is an alternate view (not saying the correct...just an alternate) on how this country came to be
