Something has got to give in the East
WKU 9-2
MTSU 8-3
Troy 8-3
Its becoming one heck of a race in the east!! The top 3 teams are playing very well and neither of them are able to gain anything on each other. Soon these teams will start playing each other and it will get very interesting!!

RE: Something has got to give in the East
i like the way troy is playing. they are playing some pretty unbelievable basketball. i dont know whats happened to them. at one time they were losing to the likes of Centenary, now they are on a win streak after beating UNT (at the super pit even!), UALR (at ualr!), and USA (at USA!!). im ready to see how the trojans do against WKU and MT tho. if they beat those two, then im gonna say troy makes it to the big dance and goes far in it.
for now tho... i think the toppers are going to take the east[/align]

That was before Troy started playing good basketball. This Troy team isn't the same since that game. Lately, the players have talked in press conferences about how they are playing with more teamwork and how everyone knows where their job is when they get on the court. Ever since Chris Leggett left the team after the William Carey game, Troy has played completely different. He might have been affecting the team chemistry somehow? I'm not sure, just speculation on my part. I do look forward to MT coming to Troy. I'll be there for sure.

Made the trip two seasons ago, it was a Saturday doubleheader. I'd go back for another Saturday DH, unfortunately we play a Wednesday/Thursday this time around.
Troy has surprised me coming on lately, but I don't know that you'll ever have any sustained success playing in that dump. I know many of you are hopeful about the new arena, but we went through two years of wish and hoping and delays with our baseball renovation and we only had to raise like 7 million for that. Isn't the new arena estimated at like 40 million?

I think everyone will agree with you that Trojan Arena is a dump. I think $40mil is about right. I'm glad the team has been able to win as of late with the facilities they have to work with though.

ya know MTPikapp, TROY never seems to have too much trouble raising funds for facilities. New football stadium, new baseball stadium, new soccer/track facilities, etc etc. We will get the new arena when we're ready for it. I think that will be Hawkins' last big project before he leaves us to run for govenor. quite the parting gift wouldn't you say? :)

$40 mill is a chunk of change, especially in the current economy. The problem with our fundraising for the baseball renovation was it was all privately donated. No tax dollars, no existing athletic budget, no loans, no corporate donations. Where we really ran into problems was one major donor turned out to not have the money, I can't remember exactly what happen, but if I remember correctly the man actually ended up taking his own life or passing under mysterious circumstances or something. Anyhow, by the time we actually got the money, inflation in building materials made our original bids from companies about $1-$1.5 million short. We finally have the new stadium and will be opening it up in few short weeks.
