FIU/Rutgers series in the works
FIU may be added to Rutgers' 2009 football schedule
by Tom Luicci/The Star-Ledger
Saturday January 31, 2009, 11:13 AM
Rutgers is working on a deal to play a home and home series in football with Florida International, according to someone familiar with the negotiations -- a move that would fill one of the Scarlet Knights' two schedule openings for this fall.
The person requested anonymity because negotiations are still ongoing.
If the deal is worked, FIU, coached by former Rutgers assistant Mario Cristobal, would come to Piscataway this year, with the Knights playing the Panthers in Miami in 2010.

RE: FIU/Rutgers series in the works
Per our AD, we will only schedule 1 and 1 or 2 and 2 deals after 2010. So far, our OOC schedule after the 2010 season includes home (and away) games with:
Texas A&M
Louisville
Duke
UCF
and hopefully Rutgers
None of those are 2 for 1. They are either 1/1 or 2/2. Good job to our administration on sticking to this. The other major point is that none of those BCS schools are currently worldbeaters so there's a chance to take them on and win.

I really like what FIU is doing with the scheduling. I guess that's one of the advantages being in Miami. I think at least one of those will be a big home win. That is if FIU keeps playing good football. They should've beaten USF this past season at home...
